House-poor...

Maybe $900,000 starter home, instead of $1.5M?

It's $1750 per month per kid. There are places in Louisiana that are over $1000 per month per kid that aren't anything fancy, so it's really not crazy at all IMO.
Yeah it's one of the least alarming things on that list

First, is that a realistic amount for child care? $42k a year?

If they have a live in nanny it is

Damn 42k for childcare. I'm guessing this is in SF or NYC

It has to be, that seems a little steep.

A little but not by much. I was dropping ~ 3k/month albeit at a really nice daycare for 2 kids in Houston. This place was nice but in no way exclusive.

And these idiots aren’t putting anything into 526s or any other savings beyond 401ks? They are going to be in for a big surprise in about 25 -30 years.

if you split it down the middle, each makes $250k a year and only puts $18k annually into a 401(k)? LOL

Also, anyone earning 250k a year but contributes 18k a year to their 401k while also donating 9k to charity needs to reevaluate themselves

Who the hell can take off enough work to take 3 vacations a year at $6000 a trip?

I could slash the hell out of that budget. Almost 2k a month for food?, 3 vacations at 6k a pop? These people deserve to feel average.

This is dumb.

How can someone that lives in a $1.5M home, drive a Landcruiser, max out a 401k and take 3 vacations a year feel “average”.

The average person also isn’t giving nearly $20k to charity or spending $2500/year every year on clothes.

These people are clearly very well off, they just spend all of their money.

The Kia K900 is ranked higher than BMW 6 series. Lexus, Infinity or Audi are all 3 better quality than BMW.

You can put more into your 401k than 18k if that is what you are getting at.

$500 per person over an entire month. Really not that bad Especially since it would appear this family lives in a place with higher than average cost of living.

Have you ever been inside of these?

Kia's feel cheap the moment you sit in them.

They are great for the money, but they aren't a 5 series.

They need to completely eliminate the donations until they've paid off their student debt. Next step is to cut down vacations to just 1 per year. Spending a combined $36k/year on vacations and donations when you owe over $30k in student debt is ridiculous.

Even more amazing that he ignored interest and didn't factor in housing costs and used a really cheap state school as his example

I was just at ways they could save more money. I was just throwing a few obvious things out there..
