No doubt. It's unnecessarily tight.

It's all relative. Being an average rich person won't make the average American feel sorry for you.

Two things I don’t mind spending money on is vacations and food. Both are done with the family and we have a good time.

I know a couple with $340,000 income, living check to check with monthly base expenses of $2200 per month.

Its typically unfair to judge someone's budget but frick those people for wasting 180k a year

I can deal with 2 vacations a year as long as one of them is the house on the coast we rent for 2 months in the summer. Take that away and I'd certainly need 3.

10k 'miscellaneous' should cover 2 pairs.

They will only be gold plated

I have a hard time understanding how someone making $500,000 would have a car payment and a mortgage. I haven't had debt in 10 years, and make I significantly less. I have one in college, a nice home, newish cars yet no debt. How do you have a debt when making that much money?

They probably have nicer things than you.

Probably made a lot more than you at your age and probably have a lot more earning potential over their career too. Therefore a little debt isn't something to fear.

Debt is not bad. It can be, but it is not inherently bad. I'll never not finance a house until I'm retired (assuming interest rates dont go above ~5%). No matter how much I make.
