Thats great. I was worried that people making around that getting denied.

I got a good buddy+wife that makes a good amount more than that and was only offered a loan.

Good to hear this. I heard they were overwhelmed but were trying to get grants out as fast as possible.

Does it really depend on who handles your claim?

Good! When no flood insurance required, this is the type of stuff we pay the government to do for us.

I am sure its not enough, hope it helps them become whole again.

the National Flood Insurance Program is administered by FEMA. They know if you have flood insurance or not.

.I've never seen a homeowners policy show whether or not that person has flood insurance.

amazing how clueless some people are

my prior carrier included flood on my homeowners. I moved policies a year ago but it is possible.

i know lsunurse' parents have a manufactured mobile home/trailer thingy, not very sure about those type of policies. likely excludes flood still.

Do you give up all future claims, assistance or class action law suits if you accept the FEMA money?

Once you accept the FEMA assistance, I assume thats it, that all you get. No chance of getting any more....right?

I realize that, but my flood policy and my homeowners policy have nothing to do with each other.

My flood is through Bankers, and my homeowners are through Southern Fidelity.

IMO they should be providing even more...especially considering all the nonsense the government spends money on. Helping tax paying citizens get their flooded homes repaired is a great thing and fairly easy for them to do. Prove that they own that home, establish that damage occurred, then write them a fricking check.

Still glad to see they are moving through applications at least.

Also...from the other thread, this is in addition to FEMA grants. It can help get a FEMA trailer and complete repairs to HVAC and plumbing to make the house inhabitable:

Beginning today, residents who are eligible for the Shelter at Home Program should register by phone or online: 1-800-927-0216 shelterathome.la.gov

That also can help some people who need temporary housing.

Don't freak out. My mil had this outcome last week. Just have to fax them copies of your homeowners policy stating no flood ins and they will review it again. She is still waiting to hear back but on her account it does state it is being reviewed again.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't flood insurance only offered by the federal government? Would it not being listed on a homeowner's policy from private insurance be a given and therefore irrelevant?

My wife's grandmother and aunt had a house 1300-1500 sq foot lost nearly all possessions. Home value was under 80k no insurance. Have not even got a call to have FEMA come out yet to look.

Cost to rebuild it will likely cost much more than they could ever afford. Then there is the question now about possibly having to raise it 3 feet.

Apparently you have to have a letter written by your agent of your home owners policy and send that in along with a copy of your homeowners policy to prove you do not have flood ins. Seems stupid to me. Like I said above they should know if you have flood ins or not. During the application process she even stated she did not have flood ins. So I hope it gets corrected.

this is a problem that they are working on solving. FEMA wanting a letter of no coverage from homeowner insurance company, in order for that to happen insured has to call, file a claim and homeowner adjuster still had to go out there and adjust the reported claim in order for them to issue a denial of flood coverage on policy. Dept of Ins. and Big I working with FEMA regarding a fix to this unnecessary procedure.
