why should you have to prove you DIDNT have flood insurance? Why would someone lie about that? If I had flood insurance I sure the frick wouldn't lie and say I didnt.

its FEMA for Christ sake, they already know if you have flood insurance and If somehow they paid you twice, they will catch it eventually and then you're going to jail for a long long time

Don't freak out. My mil had this outcome last week. Just have to fax them copies of your homeowners policy stating no flood ins and they will review it again. She is still waiting to hear back but on her account it does state it is being reviewed again.

Ok, that's reassuring. Just talked to my dad...FEMA says they need a letter from his insurance saying he didn't have flood coverage. My dad called his insurance and they will email me a letter either today or tomorrow and I can upload the letter to the FEMA website for him(he has no internet where he is staying).

Hopefully it doesn't take long to hear back

A) fema's left hand doesn't know what fema's right hand is doing.

B) there are private flood options available sometimes.

So stupid, how would your dad's insurance company know if he did or didn't have a flood policy through another company?

All your dad's insurance company is saying that he didnt have a policy WITH THEM...they wont sign off that he couldnt possibly have a policy with someone else.

I'm not sure what's more foolish....demanding proof that you don't have something or accepting a letter from your homeowners insurance provider as sufficient proof.

Well I had read that my dad needed to file a claim with his homeowners even if he didn't have flood. I did that for my dad by phone the day he found out the damage to his trailer. An adjuster had already inspected the home to determine that the damage was all flood and not due to wind, etc. and to tell my dad he did not have flood coverage.

So at least that was all done...they just have to email me the actual letter saying my father didn't have flood insurance and damages would not be covered by his homeowner's.

That letter would say that their homeowner's policy does not cover flood, not that they do not have flood insurance.

As with every FEMA thread in the last few weeks, the misinformation is rampant. For the umpteenth time, your FEMA housing assistance does not take your income into account whatsoever.

Gotcha, I may have worded it incorrectly. Whatever letter fema needs....the insurance is emailing me.

So why do they ask for your gross income on the application? I'm not saying you are wrong. You probably know a lot more than me but was just curious why they ask for that information.

Some programs most certainly take it into account. Particularly DSNAP does.

The housing assistance is independent of your income. The grants for your contents can and often are based on your income. In essence, FEMA may not replace your couch but they'll help fix your home.

DSNAP

My dad is going to that tomorrow. Hopefully that goes well.

I hated having to call my dad to tell him to call FEMA today. He was finally feeling a little hopeful cause he finally got an inspection. Now he is back to super stressed out mode(even after I tried telling him they just need the letter and then it will be ok).

You're correct about DSNAP, but these threads often suggest or outright state that you'll be denied help from FEMA based on your income and that's untrue. You may not get the "extras", but you'll get your house repaired up to the applicable limits.
