Honestly, how does buddy know that his mom isn't a fricking slut? Biological dad not in the picture, and then grows up with several step dads. Also is the mom claiming she got drunk and had sex and then regretted it the next day and cried rape?

If I had some rando hit me up on FB to tell me that I'm his father, not sure my reaction would be a whole lot different. I would certainly be defensive, especially if I had no idea that the kid's mom was pregnant by me back in the day.
Also, and I know it's treading a thin line, but the mom doesn't exactly sound like the most trustworthy of people. Her own family kicked her out of her house with child? She "had a rough go of it" when she was young?
Calling "rape" accomplishes a couple things for her. One, it *should* stop her son from ever trying to reach out to his father. Two, it's a lot easier to play the victim than it is to say, "I was sleeping with numerous people at the time and I don't know which is your dad".
She could be telling the truth. The father's reaction could be out of fear. Pretty big "coulds".

Dude sounds unstable. If he keeps pushing this your buddy will probably end up shot and his body tossed in the lake
