Southwest Airlines has always had a strict strategy of not flying into/out of nearby airports thus cannibalizing their own market share.
Southwest flies out of Dulles and Reagan and also Palm Beach and Ft Lauderdale. Just two examples. Larger markets than MSY/BTR but nearby airports.

I’m sorry SWA won’t accommodate your needs. They should rethink their corporate strategy.

I love BTR. In and out with no hassle and no large crowds

Probably because they have Southwest...
Southwest only had 281,000 passengers at Pensacola last year.
Pensacola is still half a million passengers busier than Baton Rouge without counting southwest.

Lol, that's not what's keeping southwest out of btr. It would be their smallest destination by far.
Spokane
Boise
Midland
Lubbock
Amarillo
Corpus Christi
Tucson
Pensacola
Panama City
Ft. Myers
Witchita
Des Moines
Reno
All smaller MSAs than Baton Rouge.

How many direct flights does Pensacola have? Because BTR only has 6. I live in BR, but if I’m not flying to one of those six locations, I’m going to MSY.
I would love to use BTR more, it just rarely makes sense.

They abandoned that after the AirTran acquisition.

I worded that poorly. Btr would be the least busy airport WN would serve.

I had a bird beg me for my breakfast inside BTR. Climbed up on the seat next to me and stared harder than my dog.

Looks like Pensacola has flights to 19 airports (16 cities) including seasonal service.

False again.

Ok. Harlingen.
Edit: looks like midland is also smaller than btr. I was wrong. Lubbock and Amarillo as well.

I’ve always wondered what % of MSY passengers are from the BTR area.
Posted on 2/26/19 at 10:52 pm to RedFoxx
I had it at 3 or 4 based on my quick count without looking at BTS data.

BTR has about 70% leakage to MSY. So it’s around 7-10% of MSY pax if my quick math is correct.

I think we can all agree that SWA isn’t coming to BTR. Small MSA, no traffic and MSY is right up the street.
What is MSY’s next international flight going to be? Any word on that? Thx.

Damn, that’s around 1 million passenger leakage if your numbers are correct. MSY had 12 million passengerrs in 2018. BTR gets around 800k.

I flew via direct from Austin to Btr a couple weeks back. The new south Austin terminal is nice. Boarded areound 12 and was walking through the Btr airport around 1.

Golfer wrecked Red Fox in this thread.
With a nice gut punch to LSURussian as well.
