1930's? It was not as overt but was there.

By "events" I assume you mean the crime and attacks? Sure people have been getting mugged since forever. NOLA is a special case though. And a case of ignorance. The Quarter is a concentrated area. It has always had crime, but back in the mid 1990's when I was going to Mardi Gras' it was "put your wallet in a front pocket because of pick pockets." It wasn't "you may get beat to death" at 9pm in front of a noce hotel".

And if NOLA officials can't get a handle on petty crime, how prime of a terror target is it? Those frickers pay attention.

Just seems that ZERO is being done proactive in NOLA. It is all reactive and they are 3-4 steps behind. They're one major incident away from tourism irrelevance.

I feel sorry for myself as a person who loves handing New Orleans my money once or twice a year. I can't imagine how bad it is for folks living there.

Any NOLA service industry people here? Has there been an appreciable decline in $$$? The Quarter less crowded? After an incident like this, is there a month where there is a downturn?

The French Quarter needs to enlist and partner with a strong citizens safety organization and provide full backing from the local sherrifs.

This is an easy step to take and is quite effective.

besides this is the slow season, no different than before

Like I said earlier in the thread, I talk to groups of tourist ALL THE TIME and I swear I'm still amazed on how clueless most are. Yeah they would probably guess thy Nola is dangerous but maybe 1 in a hundred would ever guess Nola was the murder capital. It's MUCH MUCH more known to us locals. That's just a fact.

It's amazing how much people that dont live in new orleans and only visit Bourbon Street once or twice a year care so much about what happens here...then its the same people that swear they will never spend another dime in the city.....

but hey, they care enough to continue to post in every 40 page thread about new Orleans. Go figure

Do you want me to keep going with the news outlets that have run with this story? Don't think other convention cities won't push this story hard either because this helps them knock New orleans out of the race.

I'm not a big "gun guy" so I really don't know here...but in this instance where the victim is knocked out cold from behind, what good would a CC gun do?

Seems like the most likely scenario would be that there would be 4 POS in possession of a stolen gun from this robbery after this.

did you watch the video? I don't encourage you to, but I will say, your advice wouldn't have done any good. If anything, these thugs would just have a new gun.
