"The NOPD's acute manpower shortage has necessitated that police minimize proactive policing strategies to allow them to respond to calls for service in a more timely manner," the report says. "The critical shortage of NOPD officers has not improved over the past four years. NOPD manpower fell 4% from 1,215 officers in May of 2013 to 1,165 officers at the end of 2016. Although the NOPD effectively applies its limited resources, the department lacks the manpower to timely respond to calls for service and adequately address the high rate of crime."

This problem traces to a hiring freeze implemented by Landrieu in his first term and the city's increasingly difficult efforts to catch up through recruiting new officers while hanging on to veterans. Still about 500 officers short of the 1,600 desired, the net gain last year was just five.
Unacceptable......but the monuments came down in a 2 week span and $2.2mm later

Landrieu has tied NOPD's hands behind their back and then wasted millions on removing monuments.
He's a complete scum bag that is sacrificing New Orleans for his own political gain.

Not only that but he also pulled this shite with Landry
LINK
quote:
Citing opposition from Mayor Mitch Landrieu, state Attorney General Jeff Landry has quietly abandoned his much-hyped effort to fight crime in New Orleans using a special task force of state agents.
quote:
Landry, a conservative Republican, pulled the plug after Landrieu, a Democrat with a very different political philosophy, alleged the attorney general's unit was putting officers at risk by failing to coordinate with the Police Department.
Mitch is such a piece of shite...I dont understand why he is so afraid to fight crime in this city

it really is sickening
what are the incentives to attract police to work in the city? certainly its time to start offering some type of sign on package thatd be hard to turn down

Several in this thread have already canceled their $3k weekend trip to the Ritz
This whold thread is one big over reaction IMO.
Reason being.....10 Million tourists per year come thru NOLA.
With that amount of people, some incidents are bound to happen.
Saying you arent going to NOLA because of an incident like this, is like saying you arent going to go into ocean water because there is a chance of a shark attack.
Well I'm not taking my wife and 3 small kids there this fall. I was hoping to hit the WWII museum and maybe a saints game if possible when it cools down some.
Not a chance in hell now.

99% chance you have a safe, enjoyable trip with the family. both those destinations are very secure

Landrieu needs to implement community policing reforms like SWB is trying to do, along with police sensitivity training

Me as well. And not just because of the trip, but because decent people in NO fricking deserve better than they are getting.
