This whold thread is one big over reaction IMO.
Reason being.....10 Million tourists per year come thru NOLA.
With that amount of people, some incidents are bound to happen.
Saying you arent going to NOLA because of an incident like this, is like saying you arent going to go into ocean water because there is a chance of a shark attack.

I mean all the guys from Franklinton and Krortz Springs that are all now #BoycottingNOLA because some statues came down that they couldn't have located even if you gave them all day but took away google maps.

I feel safer in the ocean because there are more lifeguards on the beach than there are cops in the French Quarter.

I dont even think the majority of nola residents could name all the statues, besides Lee, let alone tell you their locations

Not really. This shows an increasing trend. These threads are coming up often because attacks are increasing. NAtional news is starting to run with it.

People are trying to play down the violence by showing overall crime statistics.
The evidence from all across the country is clear, when it comes to tourism, it's not how many people are getting robbed, beaten and killed, it's where those things are happening.
The attacks are now in tourist areas and brazen. If that isn't addressed immediately you are dreaming if you think the tourist dollars won't dry up.
People want to go to New Orleans, it's an amazing and unique place, but there are too many other great options (Charleston, NYC, etc) to risk your safety.

Including the people who supposedly wanted them down. Just sayin.
That shines much more poorly on the fact action was taken, not the other way around.

Entrepreneur opportunity for someone: create an app for us people that don't know which areas of NO are safe or not for walking....

Sure it's an overreaction, but at the same time the Nola apologists do the same thing going too far out of their way to defend this behavior. It reflects poorly on both.
The truth is always somewhere in the middle. Yes Nola has a crime problem, and it seriously needs to be addressed by our inept gov't.
But it's also not this war zone everyone makes it out to be.

This is a trend in NO and a serious problem!! No where near an overreaction!!
I bet you wouldn't feel that way if it happened to you!!!

I've tried to defend New Orleans for a long time because I hate to see that city going downhill but it's getting hard think of good reasons to keep going back. I usually stay at Maison St. Charles and walk 30 min to the french quarter when visiting with friends, and sometimes we find ourselves walking back to the hotel at 2-3 am with not a person in sight. Now I feel like I'm pushing my luck walking around that city. I feel way safer walking around the Mobile, AL at night...and we're not the safest city. The difference though is how many tourists are being targeted in "nice" areas of town.

IMO New Orleans needs to step up police presence in the CBD and French Quarter. Pur them on foot and all over the damn place. Don't be shy about beating the shite out of any thug that gets caught.

I disagree strictly due to why the victim's were in New Orleans in the first place.
This should be a real eye opener for the city. If these thugs strictly mugged a couple of Mardi Gras tourists, then I'd agree with you that it wouldn't be as big of a deal.
However, these were not "just tourists". They were apart of some religious group that were in town for a convention. New Orleans still attracts their fair share of conventions. When these begin to stop coming and look elsewhere, that's where you'll really see a loss of revenue.
If the city values money, they've got to do something about keeping the French Quarter and other popular tourist areas safe.

Dude, do you know how much tax revenue the city gets off 3 Hand Grenades, a Lucky Dog and two packs of Reds? its like a lot.
