but I will say that the vast majority of the tourist I talk to in the city don't really know that New Orleans wins most categories when it comes to violent crime. Yeah they know there is crime but don't think it's any worse than anywhere else.
Theyll find out when their spouse or child is laying face down in their own piss just like these poor people did.

What I'm saying is putting a color on someone is just a poor excuse when it has much more to do with the environment the child was raised and more so than not economically depressed areas breed more trash. Black, white, brown... of course it isn't a rule but an indicator

Go look up the "economically depressed" countries and areas around the world and see if you can find anything to note.

We have a relatively uncivilized, less capable, sizable minority in whom for the last 50 years we have inculcated and encouraged a deep sense of resentment toward the dwindling majority.

We also have people on the Left who want more of these people here. They want these refugees from Syria, for instance. Where do you think these highly religious, uneducated low skill people will end up?

Same with low skill, low education illegal immigrants. Where do you think these people will end up?

New Orleans needs to borrow some NYC vigilante justice - the Guardian Angels.

Yup. They are just pushing the criminals into the surrounding area. that block where this happened used to be just fine.

These people didn't do this because they don't have decent jobs and need the money. These people did this because they get off on violence. The fact that they made out with a few bucks is simply a bonus. There are just evil people in the world and I think we've found out who a few of them are.

They're not evil, they just don't think it's bad to do things like this. It turns out that what people think is actually really important.

8:52 pm? Nola apologists will say that's what they get for being out so late. Should have known better.

I love this city. Call me an apologist, I don't care.

There is no defending this one. Absolutely insane.

You can triple the police force, and I'm not sure this could be prevented. You can't put a police officer on every block in the city.

There's 385,000 people in the city alone. If you took all the gang bangers, criminals, etc, that might be 5,000 people. That means 380,000 people in the city alone are just trying to get by, good honest people.

We can't lock them up, because we have judges that refuse to throw the book at people, and even if they get a shot to throw the book at someone, the people are scared to testify against the gangbangers.

I don't know the answers. But boycotting the city means you let the criminals win, and bulldozing the city isn't going to help either.

I am sick over this.

There should be two policemen patrolling each block length on every side street in the FQ. That's in addition to the ones already on Bourbon.

So protect the tourists but f over the actual people living here? Awesome solution

Would love to see a thoughtful, written piece on the unintended consequences of the civil rights movement...white flight, decline of a number of major metropolitan areas, impact upon community and family structures, etc. For all the positive sure seems like some pretty important matters went sideways or at least from my perspective it did.

Equal rights are a good thing. Egalitarianism is a falsehood that is contrary to reason and nature yet drives our politics and has terrible consequences.

Regarding the statement: "You laugh but this has become high profile in the city. NOPD typically does a good job on the high profile cases."

No way. About three months ago a mother and her two sons were killed execution style in their Gentilly home. Daughter also shot but survived. Estranged husband had alibi. Still waiting for news on that case.

Even more astounding of a high-profile case gone cold: The Harvard grad from Omaha who was dragged on New Year's Eve for six miles from the French Quarter to West Bank. No arrests going on two years later, despite billboards and press conferences and the family's own posted rewards and pleas for tips.

The NOPD largely has its head up its arse on high-profile cases too because it's so insanely undermanned.

Most of the crime these days can be traced to the degradation of the black family, along with the poor quality of inner city education. Those two are related in a lot of ways.

This is the issue with the progressive movement. They think it is everyone's right to have equal opportunity (actually special opportunity for those they deem oppressed) as well as equal outcome no matter what.

What ever happened with this case? I remember it getting a lot of news coverage and there was a huge thread on here about it. Did they ever catch the people responsible?

what tripped the degradation is my question? It would appear to me that in our quest for equality, and rightly so, some of us got left behind or is that simply a false premise on my part. What was the quality of the black family unit prior to? I assumed the quality of education to have been wanting. Have good, meaningful intentions inadvertently created an underclass and if so how is that cycle broken?
