Yeah, that's why they use it...
You mean to tell me a bunch of 10 year old black kids are calling each other the n-word because they are attempting to reduce the negative effects of the word?

Because words have power and meaning behind them based on who says them. Your boss saying “you’re fired” has a much different meaning than your friend saying “you’re fired”. White People in this country spent decades using it as a derogatory word. So when white people use the word, there is historical precedence that takes effect. Even though you may not mean harm by saying it that history is important. Black culture attempts to flip the narrative by embracing the word and reducing its negative effects. This is actually a common trait among different languages where there is a dominant race and a subservient race. The subservient tries to embrace the derogatory language by giving it its own meaning. You see this with the Spanish and South American natives as well.
Thanks for whitesplaining that for us. I'm sure race relations will improve now that we know that you think one race is subservient to another.

N word only has power because they want it to. Get out of jail free word.

Any person, no matter their race or ethnic background, who uses a work computer to share ethic or racial slurs/jokes is a moron who should be summarily fired.

They're already on it saying he should be fired
No word on the immigrant PhD student murdered in north BR the other night though. He doesn't help our cause so screw him

Story time: Around that time I was working for a cellular provider when one of my customers, a BRPD officer came in to see me. He asked me if there was a way the department can track communication on his phone which was given to him by BRPD.
He's a good dude so I was curious as to why. Didn't seem like the type to get in any trouble at all.
Turn out he was getting messages from a woman that was getting messages from what I assume was one of the Officers mentioned. She sent him screen shots of the conversation. He showed them to me and they were pretty bad. I don't remember what was said but the N word was heavily used, as well as other euphemisms.
I told him that it was possible for them to get the messages and told him how to do a proper delete.

At that time there was a software program that you had to download, because, nothing is ever really deleted. But honestly he never did it, and they never checked his phone. He was just being overly cautious because it made the rounds in local media.

Obviously these were sent to his department email address. You have to be a moron to use your work email for personal stuff.

His wife has a dirty arse mouth but that shouldn't fall on the cop and get him in trouble
This part about not condemning something from his wife shouldn’t even be included. If my wife were to send anything she shouldn’t have to my company email I am not going to double up by responding. I am either going to call from my personal cell or wait until I get home depending on what was actually sent or what time sensitive stuff I have to get done for work.
Even if not wife unless you have documentation of every type of conversation made between the 2 parties not seeing a person condemn someone else’s words should not automatically be included as possible wrong doing. Many people address that stuff face to face in private and don’t want to escalate a situation in public. Not seeing email doesn’t mean it was not condemned. I can’t read article, but i would think this was not needed and only serves to cast some doubt on at least part of article.

No my boss actually firing me has a much different meaning than a friend telling me I am fired. The actual actions have power.
Also acceptance of words can change over time. Negro, colored, and even black offend today, but not necessarily in the past (depends on how it was used) though some will still attempt to use it against a person’s usage decades ago.

You are absolutely right.
When I was younger (couple of years after 9/11) I put something in a work e-mail race related to middle eastern people. It was mild, but definitely got written up over it. It got caught because the guy I sent it to had other vulgar e-mails going to him talking about some chick he was banging.
The VP that wrote me up was a real old dude that I could tell probably agreed with what I said but HR had the e-mail and he had to do what he had to do. I'm sure HR was pushing for termination at the time.
Learned my lesson the pseudo hard way but fortunately it didn't cost me my job. Today, it definitely would have.
