The actions of the father are bizarre. I can't imagine a parent letting the kid stay between them and the bear.

Maybe there is some explanation but the father appears to backing up, away from his son, while filming?!!
WTF kind of parent doesn't head toward their kid in that situation?
Really, thinking any adult would head toward the kid or at least wait for him, how could you not?!!

akchully they teach you to stand your ground when confronted by a bear. Make some noise, yell "hey bear, etc." Moving away triggers their stalking behavior. Notice he broke contact immediately when the kid reached his family. Always go in groups in bear country, and if confronted by one, stand together. Bears don't have great eyesight, and you'll look like one big animal to them instead of several smaller animals.
Count me as another who didn't know they had brown bears in Italy.

Most fathers I know would have gotten between the boy and bear and walked slowly down the mountain.

Looked like the dad was closer to the kid than the bear was. I'd assume if the bear began to charge, the dad would have gotten between them...

typical helicopter parent not wanting to let a kid grow up and do anything on their own.....you probably go on job interviews with your kids
