You know we need a way for family to forcibly commit addicts before they bankrupt the family.

It is absolutely true they have to hit bottom but a mandatory retention at a facility for a year or 2 would give the family some relief and be very near bottom.

A daughter. In-patient rehab multiple times, IOP multiple times plus every kind of counseling available in addition to psychiatric care for co-occurring mental disorders. Goes back to heroin as soon as she is not locked down. Live in fear of a phone call about a fatal overdose. Hope your loved one makes it. Addiction takes such a toll on the addict’s family members.

I have 3 teenagers and a 12 yr old. This is my biggest concern every day. The media preaches to our kids about sex trafficking and cyber bullying but this right here, opioid addiction, is the most likely threat to destroy our children.

Man my first cousin is a total frickup. He has good parents too - my other first cousins (his older bro and sis) turned out well adjusted and very productive members of society.

He has had issues with just about every single substance, with meth leading the way. Already had his teeth replaced in between jail stints because my aunt thought it would help him have a fresh start rather than realizing she is just enabling him. Since he turned 18, he’s spent more time inside a cell than free. (He’s 27 now).

Everyone’s family has frickups, it’s just a matter of where they are and what their relation is to you. Only thing you can do is be the best person you can be and not worry about the trash around you.

Never dealt with heroin. But, I had a serious problem with drugs and alcohol. It takes hitting rock bottom and wanting to get clean before he can get sober. I've been sober almost 9 years. It took me being so fricked up that my kid was scared and called my sister to come pick her up. Hopefully this will be his rock bottom and he will be willing to get help. If I can get sober, anyone can. I was a mess.

same here. I was a straight up drunk mostly. Did a lot of amphetamines and coke too. Heroin users are a different animal in my experience. Any IV drug user is a different animal. they need professional help

Man you got a trashy family. But whether anyone will admit it or not the truth is so do 90% of us. I've never been the relative of the frickup but I have done the damage and looking back I truly feel for you. Good luck

Sorry about your addicted family
It’s not just heroin since 2010 overdose deaths have doubled and that’s when the government decided to legislate the restrictions on opioids now more people are dying ODD huh Nope welcome the cartel and fentanyl! To your world. Guess what your son or daughter is gonna get a Xanax off a friend that is counterfeit and they will die. thanks govt for the restrictions. Keep the narcan in the pantry

In last 5 years I known 6 people that OD.
Four where fatal. 1 of 5 OD 3 times and finally died.
She left beautiful kids and loving family behind.
The other was from a Very Wealth family(30mil) well educated, did great in school....she is the only other survivor.

I do not understand addiction, but seen its effects on family, kids, parents, and the addicts themselves. Biggest mistake I think being made is for only 28days of treatment being payed for by insurances/medicate. Should be up to 45-50 days. By the time most these addicts get to rehab, they have lost anyone and everyone that could step to help with payment. I also think you increase success rates by atleast 30%...no really data just from real life experience on time it takes behavior and thought process.

Two things that I had to completely relearn from square 1. It's so difficult to unlearn years and years of what abuse does to your brain. Every fiber of your being is telling you to get high on your drug of choice to deal with every problem that you have. It's so difficult to train yourself to handle those situations using your own cognitive functions. It takes a LOT of work to get rid of those demons. It's a long, dark, lonely road to travel. But, the payoff in the end is worth it.

Must be terrible, I’m so sorry. Never know what kind of hell a person is going though. Be nice to one another.

Yeah. This is true. Fentanyl has upped the OD's though. God forbid that some carfentanil really gets released into the supply chain.

There is not a demographic that’s not effected by this the kids today are raised on pills, pills are safe they start getting Xanax off each other and 99% are counterfeit with fentanyl laced and then it’s good night Irene you have a dead kid on your hands. So keep feeding them pills because they work can’t sleep pill can’t focus pill.
