yup
Apparently, they're already thinking they need to expand it since it will only have 30 gates (currently have 42).

Yes. One would assume they are smart enough to build it to allow more international flights and larger planes.

LOL oh you kids these days! I'm almost positive the new terminal will have less gates with access to US Customs than the current terminal.

Why don't they just renovate part of the old terminal to accomplish this. Build a tram to the new terminal

The big issue was the current airport does not have a central security screening point. Renovations would have just made the current airport more of a disjointed POS.

Number of gates is not the same thing as number of usable gates. New airport designs allow for fewer gates and better efficiency. Basically, you can have the same number of flight with far fewer total gates.

A lot of Brits are in to Louisiana, Mississippi Delta area culture.
There's a singer, Seasick Steve, who is from California, but plays a southern accent and pretends to sing the Blues. He sells out concerts in the UK, but would be considered pretty mediocre here.

Great news. I'd like to see more connections to domestic hubs out of BTR now too.
787 will have ample space at MSY. They aren't massive planes. Hell, they've had regular service with 747's at Sint Maarteen even back when the runway was only 7,000 feet.

And couple that with the incredible fuel range and efficiency they have and you see why airlines can't buy enough of them and Boeing can't produce enough of them fast enough. They're opening up new destinations and new direct routes all over the world that weren't possible before in an economic sense.
The 787 has opened up the smaller markets to big and global airlines with its size, range and fuel efficiency and it allows a lot of people to bypass the hubs.
It's an incredible plane that's changing the airline industry forever and Airbus's A350 can't keep up with it.

Very much so. It was designed for thin, long distance routes for markets too small to justify a 777, A380, or 747. New Orleans to a major European hub would be a good example of where the 787 is the best twin jet for the route. Seattle to some of the the Asian cities are another example.
IMO, Boeing needs to bring back an updated 757 to replace the older models used for those trans-Atlantic routes between mid market cities (like Pittsburgh or Baltimore) and the major hubs (like Paris or London). They would also be very popular for the trans-continental routes.

Unlikely that we'll see A380 service at MSY unless it becomes a hub.
I think Atlanta only has a couple of gates that can handle an A380. When Qatar airlines scheduled flights to ATL on the A380 earlier this year, Delta decided to be a dick and park a couple of jets at the gate the first couple of times they landed. Took over an hour to get everyone off the plane on mobile stairs.

Boeing really screwed up discontinuing the 757. They're going to get eaten alive by the A321 neo if they don't do something and they've already stretched the 737 out as far as they can before it just looks silly and becomes unstable and dangerous.
If Boeing can do great updates with the 747, 737, and 777 to the 747-8, 737 Max and 777x, the 757 should be no problem at all. Updated 757 would crush the A321 Neo.
