One of my aunts was a firm believer in the healing powers of Dr. Tichenor's for any and all ailments inflicted on the human body.

That stuff would light you up in a heartbeat and often hurt more than the injury sustained. As kids, we got to the point of keeping injuries a secret as opposed to her treating them with that crap.

I remember mercurochrome and Merthiolate. Don’t know if they’re the same. But pretty sure we ran from both.

Mercurochrome was very mild - really just a colorful "shield".

Merthiolate was painful - more than alcohol - I would sneak into the medicine cabinet and throw it in the garbage.

Only on the off occasion I get one of those pesky mouth ulcers------and yes, it does light you up but makes short work of the sore.
