OK.

Traffic during rush hour from St. Bernard into the city is much much higher than any time on the weekend.

Source - anyone who drives that route

There are no tourists and few service industry employees making that drive at any time.

When not a single poster agrees with you, you probably aren't right and should just give up

I'm sure the traffic engineer who signed off on the closures agrees with you.

How would giving them a new bridge offend them?

USACE and the Port have a plan for a new lock (the current bridge and lock are basically one system). The new lock would involve a new bridge as well.

To build this lock would require purchasing some nearby land which would displace about a dozen houses.

The local activists have lost their collective shite because the dozen or so houses all have black residents, so of course, the plan is racist and disproportionate impact (never mine 98 percent of the lower 9 is black, and the lower 9 is where the project is).

So because of that, the project is stuck and not really moving forward.

That lock is a major bottleneck in the shipping industry.

How many of these posters - of which only a few have posted - drive that route?

I mean, some of y'all are from out of state, so there is that.

Maybe they're just trying to get a good price for the buyout.

I'm sure we aren't employing the best and brightest there, either.

That would be reasonable.

"You can't make us move" and "Racism can't be cancelled with money" which are two statements that have been used - tells me this isn't a money thing.

LOL. I'm 100% certain LNCHBOX knows more about the operations of the port than you.

It looks like everyone in this thread except OP does. Seriously though, anyone that works on engineering/construction gets these simple things.

Too bad OP doesn't use the highway 11 bridge. I'd love to hear the bitching about that since it's been closed for several months. Big DOTD conspiracy I'm sure

Doesn't that bridge have a mechanical failure that makes the drawbridge inoperable?

That's a whole different issue than inspections...

I don't know him IRL or know anything about him, and he has provided 0 information in support of his positions on this thread. He can be making shite up for all I know, or he can just be ignorant and a troll like Mingo.

Or maybe he's an expert, but if he was, why won't he provide some sort of information to show why this is the best decision?

Because it's clear you've already made up your mind despite knowing precisely zero about what's going on.

You've ignored the things I've said so far. You sat in traffic, and your mind is made up that someone is incompetent. There is no dealing with people like you

You have the mentally of of the NIMBYs around baton rouge that will never allow a loop to happen

You've said "it's what they have to do" and provided zero reason as to why they can't do more of this on weekends / 24 hour clock.

You've completely ignored my multiple attempts to ask you why, if most of the marine closures are already on Saturday and Sunday, we can't have the road closures on the 18 hours a day, both of those days, that aren't part of the marine closures.

180 degrees from reality. I'm this annoyed by this stupid decision to close traffic during rush hour on Friday, which should tell you I'm 100 percent in favor of things that improve traffic flow.

I've also said how annoyed I am that the new lock/bridge project is being held up... by... NIMBYs.

kinda sounds like you just think everyone besides you is a moron.

you don't get hired anywhere as a traffic engineer with a fricking GED, bro.

you don't want to be stuck in traffic? well the fricking construction guys don't really wanna work on saturday and sunday, but frick them right?

you're not really a NIMBY if the plan is to take your backyard, not build something near it.

I would be more than glad to stand down if someone could provide a legit reason why we can't use the same work schedules that are used pretty much everywhere else. No one has yet to do that.

NAILED IT.

They don't want to work on weekends.

Tough shite. I don't like working on weekends either, but if I have to, I do.

Lazy arse locals. Everywhere else, people are willing to work, especially since they likely make more pay working on a Saturday or Sunday.

If the port isn't willing to force the local contractors and employees to work more overnight/weekend stuff, screw them. that's the problem.

Again, everywhere else in the country has this figured out.

God damn you're stupid . You realize they're already working the weekends with the schedule you don't like, right?

Unless you are coming from the FQ/Bywater/Marigny then the Florida Ave bridge is faster than the Claiborne.
