Why? You would prefer him to wait in jail at the expense of the taxpayer for 16 months before being convicted and being held for life in prison, again at the cost of taxpayers? The result was a just result far more expeditiously than it would have been if his parents turned him in.
As a Christian and father, I hope loyalty to a son is not punishable by eternal damnation. Would it be right for them to turn him in, probably. Should they have to burn in hell for not turning him in? If God is that judgmental then hell is going to be a crowded place.
