Some reports linked cracks in a Baton Rouge public swimming pool
Interesting and technically possible. We are in a very low seismic zone but obviously wind governs our designs of structures until you get into lower Arkansas and upper Mississippi. I think city park is pretty close to the Scottlandville fault and that difference between the harder soil and the alluvial soil from the river could cause slippage with enough force.

A public swimming pool in Baton Rouge sounds nice.

I posted Howell Park
Howell Park isn't a new park. It's one of the oldest parks in the BREC system and has been there since that part of town was all white.
This old plane is at the park. It's an F2H-2P Photo Banshee.

Friday’s event at the park begins at 6 p.m. with the ribbon cutting, followed by a Late Night Hype event from 7 to 10 p.m. Late Night Hype will include late swim hours, a DJ, and inflatables.
This is wild.
Late Night Hype was something started by the Healing Place Dream Center last summer to help bridge the gap between the community and police. It was held Gus Young Park.
They had a DJ, inflatables, and a huge basketball tournament that the police played in. It was great and after the summer, the police told the church they saw a decrease in crime in the area by 40%.
Glad to see BREC trying to piggyback off others success.

BREC sure shits the bed a lot for an organization with such a generous budget.
BREC needs to do what they did best in the '80s, at least for my poor white arse. Have 2-3 person staffed gym, free and open from 8am-6pm with strict age limits offering basketball, softball, ping pong, dominos, and a cold water fountain.

This is actually a fairly rare model. Especially the condition it is in. I think the Pensacola Naval Museum offered to swap it out with something newer but BREC said no. The museum ended up restoring a banshee that had been filled with concrete and was not a photo model.

We were members of the Piedmont Club
Went there a ton as a kid as friends of a member and had my wedding reception there. It was the 1970's version of a water park.

The potential for this not ending well is high. Didn’t they try this last year at Liberty Lagoon ?

I was a lifeguard for BREC in the early 80s. Even then it was free daycare for a certain demographic.
I would show up to open the gate at 8am and kids would be waiting (having been dropped off).
When we closed at 8pm, I’d drive home as they waited in the parking lot waiting for their parents.
Damn shame.

I’m surprised it isn’t spray painted with gang signs. Shocked, actually.

Might just be the case now that St.George is incorporated.

There is an LPB documentary on this called "Troubled Waters". It is an interesting overview of the civil rights era in BR.

The Navy threatened to remove the aircraft because the plane’s condition had deteriorated so badly BREC had to fence it off.
