I disagree with this statement. It's gotten much better in the past 5 or so years. No, it isn't on par with Audubon. But does it need to be?

I hope you are right and my DIL is wrong. I pay enough taxes to BREC. They need to do their job.

Four million a year to fix and upgrade the present zoo for five maybe ten years is better than 150 million on a zoo

Perfect location. Rarely is anything going on at this site and is centrally located. I’m aware that it flooded in 2016, but at least we know this. With proper engineering, migugation lakes that can double as habitats..,it’s doable for sure.

Fix up what they have and make it a nice, small zoo where kids and families can see the basic exhibits.

We don't need nor can we afford a big, new zoo.

And yes BREC, the library, CATS and the COA are all over funded.

The parks system in Baton Rouge is phenomenal. They are nationally recognized as one of the top 10 park systems in the country.

The zoo has a few animal enclosures that are a bit underwhelming, but it overall has a nice layout.

So why are they saying it's beyond repair.

How are BREC's baseball facilities. The ones I pass by suck. They have always ignored baseball.

And BREC should be top ten if you consider the resources they have.

I just hope they’ll let us ride the elephant again. That was worth the trip as a kid.

Are we talking the area where the state fair is held?

There is a ton of land there just sitting empty for the vast majority of the year.

I'm sure the folks in Santa Maria will love this idea.

The layout is bad. Way too much unused land

It should be either the best or 2nd best in the state and it's neither

That's one of the biggest reasons I see no reason to move it. They can easily expand what they already have.

No one wants to drive into the hood to see a zoo.

That alone is a good enough reason to move.

The amount to renovate the zoo was something like 90 million.

That's a huge reason to move it imo

We stayed at Animal Kingdom lodge at Disney once and it was cool to see the Giraffes and other animals from our balcony - for like about the first day.

What's that compared to the proposed cost of building a new one?

Well 60% of the 150.

Iirc, plenty of the donors would pull their donations if it was just going to go to a renovation.

This is a long term investment. Spend more money, have a completely up to date zoo, and be in a much better location. The extra money is well spent when you compare the two options

Moving the store and NBR still doesn’t have a grocery store. Gravy is going to stroke out.
