I'll give a shout out to the OT in the liveleak video when the tell me I can't get on the plane with a carryon, personal item, baby, stroller, ice chest, child safety seat, and breast pump.
Strollers get red tagged on the jetway. Baby sits in carseat. Make sure the cooler is soft and nothing you posted goes against the policy and is actually pretty common.
It's not that hard...

Does it matter? Should the gate agent get to make up rules on the spot that goes against the company's policy? Kinda hard to unpack belongings from a jetway.

Interesting since that's how the FDA labels them.
And TSA seems to agree
quote:
Individuals with disabilities or medical conditions, who use medical devices should not think of a TSA checkpoint as a barrier to travel. It’s okay to bring along a CPAP machine or a breast pump.

I'm just coming in here to make a statement about how it's absolutely outrageous this woman thought she didn't have to follow the carry on rules even though TH03 has posted the policy showing she was following the rules multiple times.
Because I'm outraged and shite.
'Murica!

“
well then why don't you have a special "lactation flight" for these gals so they can carry on as much shite as they think is necessary.
I get that shes "special" cause shes a mom, but the rest of us have to wait while you insist on proving that youre special by ignoring the boarding rules.
Put all that shite in a bag and get on the plane. Problem solved.

If you use a cpap I hope you have the decency to buy a second seat so I don’t have to touch your fat rolls

It is as if you didn't really read the article or the posts in this thread.

I mean it probably is hard to travel while breastfeeding.
And she did follow policy.
I don't know why everyone is so outraged over this story.

As someone who finds today's look at me/outrage culture ridiculous and is constantly annoyed by the inconsiderate things people do on flights, this woman absolutely does not fall into that scenario. She followed the rules and probably took steps to do so. If you don't like the policy complain to the airlines.
On the other hand, there is plenty to get worked up about when it comes to not following rules on airlines. Including things I'd bet many of the ardent "rule followers" of this thread have broken. Including:
*Carry on size - nearly all carry on roll aboard bags are too big per the rules...even before they are overstuffed with crap. That this is rarely enforced doesn't change the fact. If you complained about this woman not following the rules (even though she was), make sure your carry on fits in those sizers on your next flight.
*People are always putting their personal item (also frequently too big) and/or a jacket in the overhead bin despite being told to place it under the seat in front of them. You would also think properly orienting a suitcase in the overhead bin was slightly more complicated than rocket science based on how few people actually do it correctly. Both of these things tremendously slow down boarding and cause people to have to gate check bags.
*While not breaking a rule, few things are more annoying than the wall of people that form in front of a boarding gate that will not be boarding to group 6, etc. Hopping over their oversized carry-ons while trying to board in the proper group is frustrating.
All of the above are far bigger issues than the isolated mom flying with a breast pump and breast milk.

I read it. I don't care if she was technically correct in the number of items she carried on. Or if the boarding agent was in the wrong. Or if AmAL policy was followed to the letter.
Put all that shite in one bag and go.
Or better yet, don't fly with your fricking infant if its that much of a hassle.

"I don't care that she followed airline policy to the T and got rudely yelled at and embarrassed by an idiot employee who doesn't know her own company's policy. She should have done what wasn't required of her just because I think so!"
Morons on this website.
The only "hassle" that she endured was created by an airline employee who incorrectly performed her job duties.

Were they unjustly yelled at by a dumb arse gate agent who didn't know policy?

Yes I hate when people are so entitled they expect to be able to board with the items that airline policy dictates they can have.

Which she was not required to do per American Airlines policy. Thanks for playing though.
