I have been thinking about getting a room for the night and spending the day down there. Does it really matter where I am? I am looking to park the truck, have access to the beach, and be near some decent nightlife. I would prefer to walk but a short Uber would work.

I lived in Houston for 9 years and fished down there regularly, I've never seen that water anything but brown. This has to be fake, trying to pump up tourism for the summer Once all the people show up it will look like chocolate milk

A combination of Alberto plus very little tidal movement from the ship channel from 5/24-5/26 produced the relatively clear water.

It's already back to normal levels and brown, but it wasn't fake.

Not surprising

The water is Crystal clear 1/8 mile offshore there. The only reason the water is muddy is because of the jetties

I'm surprised it is still a debate on page 3.

There's nothing like this way out in west Texas. Galveston Bay is a whole other world.

I guess from the lack of water

many times aerial snap shots of water appear bluer than they really are because of the reflection of the sky on the water.

I remember my first drive down to Galveston. I walked over to the water, the wave action was about six inches and the color was cheap chocolate milk.

Never again.

If the Mississippi hadn't been restricted by levees, I wonder if this blue would be a more normal thing?

Yes. Very much so.

Galveston proper is almost all commercial; hotels, parks, restaurants. Heading west on the seawall is almost exclusively residential/vacation homes.

My folks have a house in BFE about 4-5 miles from Aransas Pass and it's FAR from anything so I'd suggest you get a room at San Luis (also on the seawall) and can Uber to downtown to eat/drink/pick up an STD.

Good luck

San Luis is your ticket baw. Vegas style pool with swim up bar, cabanas, chicks serving you as you chill and swim. Walk across the street to beach. 5 minute Uber to the strand.

The river has nothing to do with Galveston's water
