Breaking lease question and implications?

Moved a few months ago and signed a year lease at an apartment complex just to not rush into buying something and regretting it later.
After 3-4 months, I'm just ready to be back in a home. I asked one of the hot chicks in the office about what the penalty would be to break the lease. Her response was that they don't allow it. If you sign a year lease then you have to pay for the full year per the contract. Basically meaning even if I move out I am still liable to pay for the full term of the contract regardless of how much time is left on it.
Is this normal??

Pretty much. Some make you pay the full balance, some just make you pay a certain amount. Read your lease for the specifics.
You signed a contract to pay x amount for x months. Breaking that contract will have its penalties.

And you’ve most likely agreed to pay their attorney’s fees in suing you and collecting on whatever rent you try to skip out on.

Usually, yes. You singed a contract, you have to fulfill. typically, there is a statement in the lease agreement that state what happens if you break contract.

Read your lease agreement, but this is why I only ever rented with 6 month leases. It should be drawn up neatly in the contract. If it's not, hire a lawyer.

Yes, it is and they'll want payment. Sometimes you can negotiate a lesser amount. With that said, if you don't pay, they will turn you over to a collection agency and ruin your credit.

What state are you in? In Texas, I believe that they can force you to pay the full balance of the lease, although many apartment communities will let you break the lease if you pay a penalty equal to 3 months rent. It probably depends on the management company and their specific policy.

Correct. Your best bet is to find someone to take the lease off you and hope that management works with you.
