The CDC and surgeon general support the finding that second hand smoke is harmful. But go ahead, smoke around your kids. They will thank you later for the asthma.
3000 nonsmokers die each year from lung cancer caused by secondhand smoke.
There are hundreds of scientific studies on second hand smoke that reach the conclusion that secondhand smoke is harmful. Get your heads out of the sand.

Are new bars breaking into the market by marketing themselves solely to smokers?
Not many, because most bars allow smoking if the law lets them. A lot of bars, however, break into the market by marketing themselves to the crowd who don't want to be around smoke. I know specifically of three of those I've been to in the past two weeks. They opened a few years ago before DC banned smoking in bars. They gained a foothold and survived in a very tough market PRIMARILY because they offered a smoke-free environment that most bars didn't. They wouldn't be able to do that today.

You're telling healthcare workers that they are delusional about smoking? Alright bro.

6-6 huh? BR will be smoke free in a year.
Now I'm off to Happy Hour in the Bywater where all the trashy smokers will be outside.

So with that statement you think it is totally ok for a parent to smoke in a car with the windows all rolled up with their child
The WHO released a long term study about this. Their findings were children exposed to 2nd hand smoke were less likely to develop lung cancer. Crazy, I know, just thought you might be interested.

These people getting so hostile over this
It's health vs businesses wanting less regulation. I understand the arguments for both sides, but I don't understand how some jackasses in this thread can really argue that secondhand smoke is harmless.

Shouldn't they have a right to also be able to go to a bar and enjoy drinks with friends? A smoky bar is harmful to some people with asthma or certain allergies.
Are you retarded?

I don't. A private business like a bar should be allowed to let its patrons take part in a legal activity. I can think of like 3 bars in BR that still allow smoking inside. Go somewhere else if you're concerned about your health.

Going to public places is a right
You walk into someone's business where almost everyone is smoking, and you think you're more important than everyone else?
Nope. But if a bar is "full of smokers" let's say 30 people. I guarantee you another 30 are there that are non smokers. You make it sound like I'm the one guy who wants to watch tennis in a sports bar on an NFL Sunday. If a bar existed where EVERYONE in it smoked it would be like the Seinfeld episode where Kramer opens his apartment to smokers. And since real life is not a sit-com some of those smokers would leave. It would be too much.
And people here are saying private business as though they are private clubs. They are privately owned businesses that are open to the public. There's a difference. They have right to refuse service based on condition/drunkenness. But that's about it. This is a societal shift that BR is behind the times on. Like pregnant women smoking in the 50's-80's. Or smoking in stores or malls. Or drinking and driving being ok in the 70's.
The majority of people don't want it and businesses are just fearful of change. Regulars are gonna "regular". If a bar does not put a patio up then that is the bars fault. I understand that some NOLA FQ places can't due to space. That is a legitimate issue. I concede that, but the rest is just folks kicking and screaming toward change.
I should be able to smoke all over babies and my pregnant wife while drunk out of my mind and stoned on heroin and cocaine I bought out of the Sears catalog (which would now be Amazon). 'Mercia.

And yet, the government already restricts businesses from doing so in a myriad of ways.

Your smoke has been pushing it agenda literally into the lungs of others for years. Not you particular. Your actions effect my environment. Not really an SJW thing.
You have the capacity to select you environment. Speak with your dollars. Apparently smokers spend more money than non-smokers, hence the bars opposition to these measures.

Bars will benefit in the long run with not having to maintain smoke eaters and ash trays. Life of a bar top has to improve after a smoking ban as well as carpet and all woodworking. Ceiling tiles.
I hope you never graduate. If you do, tell people you graduated from ULL.

All of you people are hypocritical as frick. You bitch and bitch about SJWs all day long and guess what you are by supporting this ban? That's right, a SJW
So true. Probably all "small government conservatives" too.

No shite. But outright banning the act of smoking indoors is a clear overreach to me.

Nah. I'm not the one predicted the demise of Western Civilization because of a smoking ban.
There was a panic here in Houston. All about nothing. Lots of outdoor patio contractors were happy.
Most businesses I bet are better for it. Less to clean and maintain.

So now you admit it will be a financial burden on the bar. I thought you said this was all going to be a financial boon to the bars......

That's fine. I don't even inherently disagree with this position, per se. But understand that you're on the losing side. It will happen everywhere eventually.
