I do have an issue with that if it's an action taken by the government

So you still upset about the federal ban in 1988 that banned smoking on all airplanes?

that this ends up not being that big a deal as all of you protesting this thinks it will be.

I'm not really passionate about it either way because I don't smoke, but I don't think it is so much an issue of going outside being a big deal. It is more an issue of a business owner losing the ability to make decisions about their own business. At least that is what it is for me.

If someone doesn't like smoking, they should choose not to visit a smoking establishment. At this point, the only places in BR that allow smoking indoors are "dive" bars and Tigerland. There is no more smoking at Bulldog, no smoking at Olive or Twist, no smoking at Radio Bar, etc. There are numerous places to enjoy smoke-free drinks. Forcing someone like Port Royal or the casinos (who 80%-90% of their customers smoke) to ban smoking is silly.

The casinos here still allow smoking. They have non-smoking areas of the casino as well though.

But if a bar is "full of smokers" let's say 30 people. I guarantee you another 30 are there that are non smokers
We're talking about different types of bars. Evidently you haven't ever been to a bar with less than 60 people inside

Again, you aren't aware of how it affects bars. You don't know anyone to ask, and you haven't even attempted to ask. You sound like someone who goes to a bar once every month or three.....Yet your opinion matters more than the people whose bar you're going to?

Why not let the businesses decide? If there is such a huge market for nonsmoking bars and casinos they should roll in the money.

Longhorn in Toomey. 1991-4.

Place wreaked. Numbers were 60/40 non smoker to smoker. I was just giving a small number as a for instance.

As mentioned, people go to bars to chase poon and drink. They smoke on porches and in cars.

Bottom line is that nobody gives a shite except smokers. They will stand outside of work in the cold rain to smoke, they will stand outside of a fun place to smoke.

Side tangent. Can cigar bars and hookah lounges have people smoke cigarettes in them? Are they given a loophole?

More non smokers stay home from bars because of the nuisance and stench than smokers who stay home from bars out of outrage on not being able to smoke. Especially when they can smoke on a patio.

If this were not fact, the bar industry would have collapsed for the first time...... In the history of mankind and intoxicating drinks.

I could be wrong, but I believe the proposed was for everything 100%.

Like I said, the majority of bars in BR are nonsmoking anyway. There is simply no reason to be fighting something that only the dive bars or drunkass college bars allow. Refined-people bars who care about how they smell/secondhand smoke have already outlawed smoking..mostly because they almost all serve food too.

I honestly can't even think of the last place I've been that allows smoking inside. I guess the Belle.

the smoking bans are not the end of bars. Even hole in the wall bars here in AZ are still thriving. They have adapted (smoking rooms/patios, etc). Btw...you can still drink on these patios/rooms...and most of the patios have bars located in them that you can still sit at and smoke. So it's not like you are leaving your drink to go smoke.

This!!!!!! I only smoke while at bars but I LOVE to smoke while at bars. When they first banned it I was so pissed and had the same concerns all of you did but I was wrong, way wrong. Smoking patios are way better and EVERY SINGLE BAR I know of has adapted and has a patio. They all make sure drinks are available on the patios, it is actually usually much faster to get one on the patio, and it pushes all of the skanks who smoke into one area and everyone knows if she smokes she pokes. Quick drinks, great conversations, no uptight lames, smoking, easy girls.......what is not to like? It basically creates a cool kids section. You all need to chill the F out and give it a chance.

And a cover over the outdoor patio doesn't help much when it's 15 degrees outside.

Weather out here can be between 20 to 120, heaters and the big blower AC fans take care of it. If you are in Minnesota in the winter it may suck but in NOLA its no biggie.
