And I highly doubt that a plethora of bars are going to fail because of the ban (because, guess what, all of the bars are affected in the same way).

Bars here still do VERY well and did so even immediately after the smoking bans took place in Scottsdale several years ago. I've seen some very lenient looking smoking patios as well(for places that don't have true patios). Like basically a separate room of a bar/restaurant that just had REALLY big open windows and proper ventilation to pull smoke outside.

How many predominantly smoking bar owners, managers, and bartenders do you know?

Unless you are talking about a cigar bar I don't know what that means? Smokers smoke wherever they go. They don't congregate at one bar because the draft is such that their smoking is more enjoyable. Their will be a brief tantrum, but the bars will all do fine.

Why? What does it matter? And what will it matter when every other bar is affected in the same manner?

I'm not a liberal SJW though. I mean to your hillbilly, likely a member of the Klan-arse I'm sure anyone is considered one though in your eyes.

I didn't even vote for the smoking ban. Didn't really care one way or another when the issue was being presented here in AZ. I'm just pointing out that it isn't this doomsday thing to bars. Life goes on. Bars survive. Smokers still smoke...just not inside.

Probably because then you could ask them what the effects were

There are several tourist cities with thriving bar businesses that do just fine with smoking bans in place.

Why would I? You seem to already have the answer. Apparently, there will be rapid, wanton destruction of bars as smokers suddenly decide to stop drinking altogether, with the resulting job losses causing thousands of widows and orphans out onto the cold streets to fend for themselves.

Oh maybe it will affect them like it has here. You know, they continue serving drinks in a smoke-free environment.

I can't believe people here actually think second hand smoke is completely harmless

There are different types of people in New Orleans than in Scottsdale

A public environment that you CHOSE to be at. How do you not get this? If you don't like it, then go to another place.

And also by that logic, why is it right for your actions to effect my environment?

Majority of the people at bars here don't smoke though.

I know a few people that actually quit smoking after the bans took place. They had been wanting to quit but the ban was an extra incentive for them.

Oh give me a break. I even smoke occasionally, but don't act like smoking is some sacred cultural tradition unique to New Orleans. It's a habit that's bad for your health.

Hell, even if they don't quit, it will at least cause a reduction in smoking.

I'm so thankful I live someplace where smoking is banned. Now I can actually enjoy when I go out and not have my clothes stink when I come home.

You can do that anywhere. Just go to a bar that doesn't allow smoking. There are plenty of them everywhere. When it becomes profitable to prohibit smoking, bars do it on their own. They don't need the government forcing them to do it.

Allowing bars to choose whether to allow smoking makes it easier for new bars to compete in the market because it offers them another way to distinguish themselves from nearby competitors. If the nearest competitor allows it, they can prohibit it and get the crowd who don't want to be around smoking. If the competitor prohibits it, they can allow it and get the crowd who want to smoke. Forcing all bars to prohibit it takes away that opportunity for the new bar to gain a foothold in the market.

Is it more harmful than alcohol, certain foods, cokes, pollution?

I do. See my post explaining it a while back. Basically, it is much more beneficial to have people inside a bar than outside a bar. Not to mention the fact that you get fined for making too much noise outside

The same can be said for smokers.

Because their actions are not actively causing you harm.
