BR councilman requests shooting stats from BRPD Chief - controversy ensues

In June, Councilman Matt Watson requested the number of non-fatal shootings for the past three years from BRPD Chief Murphy Paul. Paul initially stated the department didn't track those records. After Watson filed a public records request for them, Paul provided the numbers to the BR Press Club a week later, stating that they just began tracking these statistics in 2017. The retired statistician for BRPD and two former BRPD Chiefs say they've been available and easily accessible since 1998.
Turns out that the numbers show BR is on pace to be significantly higher this year in total shootings than 2018. Does the SWB administration believe people are so stupid to believe that, in 2019, a police department serving 250k people hasn't been keeping basic crime stats?

I thought every decent sized city recorded this stuff, and reported it to the feds? I'm almost positive they do. Even New Orleans does, but I think they got caught fudging the numbers a while back

I just read that whole article. Wtf is wrong with Baton Rouge government that the chief would lie and cover up about havig basic crime stats.
It’s amazing how stupid and corrupt these people are just to protect their false narrative. The only thing dumber are the majority of voters who elect these clowns. No wonder St George has gained so much steam.

You will also note, if you read the link, that the Chief didn’t show up for the interview and sent one of his Deputy Chiefs. That is because he refuses to meet with or speak to Karen Chawla ever since she ran a story that was critical of him and the Mayor. She also dates an officer and they have been fricking with that officer at work and tried to get him fired once. The Chief and Mayor are petty little assholes running Baton Rouge like it is their own little personal third world dictatorship and they get pissy anytime anyone has the gall to question them or call them out.

You know you have a bad bad bad crime problem when the city police doesn't even keep track of shootings where nobody was killed.
There really is no reason to have the city police. Combine them with the EBRSO and layoff the everybody in charge of the city police.

I never envisioned St George being possible. After it was defeated last time I thought there goes their chance.
