You should know best. I'm not holding my breath on the completion of any of the projects in SG

What does parish projects planned in St. George before St. George existed have to do with anything?

EBRSS has already said they would no longer plan to build schools in the SG area despite previous promises and the lack of schools in the area now.

But they will continue to collect our taxes.

I'm amazed so many people cannot see right through the bullshite. This says it all right here. So you want our money but will not do anything we want with it? Got it.

Isn't one lake owned by LSU and the other is part of BREC?

Update LSU owns both lakes and BREC maintains the park area around them (or it is individually private owners). So we pay a BREC tax that will not go to this project. We pay a MoveBR tax that will pay for something that LSU owns. (LSU already receives enormous amounts of state funding and private grants.) Also, tax payers funds from people all around the state will also pay for something that the vast majority of people in the state do not use that is owned by LSU to the tune of $50-$80 million. To put this in perspective - the I-12 bridge over the Amite, if I am not mistaken was widened and built for $110 million.

Incorrect, per the AM Advocate

There are 6 lakes, LSU owns four. EBR owns the other two. BREC maintains both.

There needs to be a plan to use this opportunity to improve area drainage and “save” the lakes. That should be job one.

Job two is to enhance recreation and make the lakes easier to maintain.

I don’t like the BRAF plan because I don’t see where it puts drainage and maintenance first.

I’m thinking of a reservoir that can hold a large amount of rainfall in a flood event. You could dredge it much deeper. Regulate the water level at the Stanford “weir” and use Bayou Duplantier as a spillway. The Jackson Reservoir in miniature.

The recreation stuff could be added when funding becomes available, but the dredging has to be done right and not half arse like it was previously.

But the timing of this announcement is so painfully obvious that JBE needs the votes from middle and upper class whites to get 50% + 1.

Louisiana is strange in that regard. Almost every statewide election for other offices the republican wins by a landslide, but with governor it's like everyone throws their values out the window.

Couldn't find any statues to take down. Cleaning up the lakes will certainly reduce the crimes.

It will certainly reduce solved crimes. It's about a foot deep right now below the interatate. They'll never find anything when they dredge it down to 10-15' along there.

So, enlighten the rest of us. What will add up to $80 million? Besides the $40 million that goes automatically to politicians pockets and/or buddies, of course.

I am going to go by this document instead of the Advocate crack (bought and paid for) reporting team.

Click the link in the OP and look at the 20+ page PDF that explains the plans going forward, you seem to be the only one confused about this

How much of that tax was advertised for dredging the lakes?

Very little MoveEBR money is going to this effort. Most of it is coming from BREC, DOTD, coastal restoration, etc. The small amount of MoveEBR money that was discussed is only for sidewalk and lighting improvements, which fits within the list of dedicated projects.

Is this just a political ploy by JBE right before the election?

Yes. This isn’t a state issue and instead should be announced by SWB

Also, why are they using MoveBR funds. This isn’t a transportation agenda, just a beautification project that should be funded by brec and the lake owners
