It wasn’t the entire point of the article like the OP appeared to make it out to be. This developer is proposing a cheaper option to improving I-10. I’m concerned though about what would happen when the bridges would have to eventually be replaced, because that didn’t appear to be part of his proposal.

Mr Brown doesn't seem to think bridges ever need to be replaced. The state is actually being proactive here for once and replacing the bridge near the 10/110 merge and the perkins road overpass bridge.

This was a pretty stupid thing for Coleman Brown to give a speech on. 30 years ago would have been good. Does he have any connection to the perkins road businesses?

Baton Rouge architect Coleman Brown said Monday traffic on Interstate 10 can be improved by spending far less than the state's $380 million plan and that closing the Washington Street exit is one of the keys.

I see what' he's doing. He's trying to present the I-10 widening as the less-racist idea.

I support the I-10 widening. That should have happened 20 years ago.

This is a valid architect comment.

Sure, I'm just not sure if it needs to be grouped in with his $77 million plan to fix traffic

Having a sharp curve that forces 60-70 mph traffic on I-10 to slow down to 30-35 mph. Its the same problem that backs up traffic for miles and miles at the I-10 Mobile tunnel.

This is as-big, if not a bigger problem than, the road going down to one-lane there.

Rather than demolish Southdowns-Valley Park Nairn Street Bridge and the Acadian Railroad Underpass, preserve and repaint the City Park Lakes bridge to its original sky-blue color.

Part of his plan. Yeah.. This guy is definitely acting as a shill for the perkins road businesses that will be plowed down to widen I-10. Cut the whole plan and let's paint the bridge instead. That will help traffic out.

Wasn’t the whole fricking point of that new left exit by the merge to eliminate the Washington St exit?

How many people use that exit in an average day anyway? 50, if that?

Even though they have a brand new exit on the left, these morons still cross 2 lanes of heavy traffic to take the Washington exit

That is a wonky arse place to put an exit I've always thought.

Plot twist. Just forwarded this idea to mayor doom so that she'll close the Washington exit to piss off more of whitey than ever. First their drainage pond, now their white roads

It ceases to exist in New Orleans. All I10 lanes are forced to exit.

I was driving down I-10 through San Antonio and when it merges with I-35, in order to stay in I-10, you have to exit and it goes down to one lane, both way. All my life I had heard this same story about the only place this happens is in Baton Rouge, and all I could think was that... frick... all our cake is a lie.

I drive this daily. It sucks. I am no Architect, however I feel that you have to improve the curve and the lane issue. I wonder if you could adjust the angle of the curve by going higher than the current interstate. You can use the current roadway for exits, etc, and then throw a new “flyover” type ramp above it so traffic coming from N BR and Laffy have more time to intersect. I am not sure there is space though.

This is in the advocate article. This is definitely just a save muh business and let BR continue to suffer with traffic ploy.

Brown said traffic improvements are possible by spending just $77 million, which he said would affect only a handful of homes and businesses compared to the 32 in the path of the state project.

This would require more space, and buying out and demolishing lots of ghetto housing. Basically, this is absurdly racist and will never happen.

The difference is San Antonio has two loops, so you can avoid that interchange entirely.

Yes you need to extend the lanes but closing that exit also stops what ever people need to cut over from I-110 to Washington. I’ve seen people do this and yes, they slow up traffic tremendously

Isn’t 32 homes and business pretty much just a handful of businesses?

What makes those 32 people so special that the other 800k people in the metro area have to continue to suffer?

Kind of depends WHICH 32 homes are involved.

Look toward LSU as you finish crossing the lakes and you will see some pretty nice houses behind the tree line. I have a feeling that there is money or pull there trying to keep them from either being bought out or having a lane put in their back yard.

The businesses everyone seems concerned about are Ivar’s, Duvic’s, the Overpass Merchant, and George’s
