Baton Rouge architect Coleman Brown said Monday traffic on Interstate 10 can be improved by spending far less than the state's $380 million plan and that closing the Washington Street exit is one of the keys.
"The same problem that has existed for about 50 years is the Washington exit," Brown told the Press Club of Baton Rouge.

Wow that's the most racist idea I've ever heard.

The white people at Dalrymple won't allow that exit to be closed.

What does the genius think will happen if you only close the exit?
I-10 still needs additional lanes through town which is what the state is doing. You close the washington st exit and extend the lane through town. He doesn't want to extend a lane through town.
Sportsfan must have places under the perkins road overpass he likes going to.
From the article
quote:
Rather than demolish Southdowns-Valley Park Nairn Street Bridge and the Acadian Railroad Underpass, preserve and repaint the City Park Lakes bridge to its original sky-blue color... Brown said traffic improvements are possible by spending just $77 million, which he said would affect only a handful of homes and businesses compared to the 32 in the path of the state project.
Part of his plan. Yeah.. This guy is definitely acting as a shill for the perkins road businesses that will be plowed down to widen I-10. Cut the whole plan and let's paint the bridge instead. That will help traffic out.

Wasn’t the whole fricking point of that new left exit by the merge to eliminate the Washington St exit?
How many people use that exit in an average day anyway? 50, if that?

There are no plans to close the Washington Street exit, in part because objections from area residents has made doing so a political problem.
or...the hordes of citizens traveling from lafayette and port allen to mckinley high school could get off at nicholson to van buren to...washington street!

Well, it would eliminate the ONLY place on I-10 from coast to coast that it goes down to one lane.....

Does any interstate exits affect St George

It wasn’t the entire point of the article like the OP appeared to make it out to be. This developer is proposing a cheaper option to improving I-10. I’m concerned though about what would happen when the bridges would have to eventually be replaced, because that didn’t appear to be part of his proposal.

I-10 goes down to one lane in San Antonio.
Please stop spreading this lie.

Politicians have blocked closing it for decades. This is not a new idea.
Architects screw up parking lot layouts... they need to either get better at math or stick to cute building renderings.

There's no road past that point. You still have to expand the road and build a new lane through town. They're going to build the new lane through town. It doesn't really matter if they put a new washington st exit on the side of the new extended lane or not.

I believe the Wash St exit will have to be closed in order to add the lanes. His comment is absolutely accurate although not real popular with a portion of the population. The Wash St exit won't be the only ting severely impacted by the widening. Sometimes improving means pissing people off. They'll get over it.

Oh I’m soooo sorry. It’s one of two places. From coast. To coast. That it goes down to one lane.
It’s asinine.

Another fantastic part of his traffic solution is to paint the bridges
quote:

DOTD has stated that parts of 10 in BR are nearing the end of their “life”; thud the need to replace much of the existing structure and concrete.
If that’s the case then Brown’s ideas are too little too late.

This is a valid architect comment.

It ceases to exist in New Orleans. All I10 lanes are forced to exit.
