Autopsy scheduled for tomorrow, probable child abuse. If so, second severe case in 24 hours.

BATON ROUGE - Police said they're investigating what happened to a one-year-old child who was found unresponsive and who the coroner said later died Wednesday in Baton Rouge.

Baton Rouge Police said they were called to 8770 Elm Grove Garden around 9 a.m. for reports of an unresponsive child. Authorities told News 2 they were told the child was found in a bathtub.

Police said the child was taken to the hospital, and the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner's Office said they later died.

If someone leaves a kid somewhere random, how do cops find out who the parents are?

Real nice. Shocked something like this would happen there.

Being so close to EBR prison you'd think it would be safer.

Nvm....just got what he was saying.

It says the child was found in a bathtub....was this a drowning?(to clarify article just doesn't specify if child was found in a bathtub full of water or just an empty bathtub.

Sadly....most children do NOT have a good outcome from drownings...even if they survive.

If the child was in the tub it was an attempted cover-up. Multiple fractures including skull, ribs, and leg. Coroner found other fractures in various states of healing. Poor kid is in a better place.

ETA: I was wrong. Two different stories.

Oh that is horrible. Poor baby. Do not understand how someone could hurt a baby. And fractures in various states of healing....that isn't accidentally handling a baby too roughly.. that is deliberate.

probable child abuse? not just a kid drowning in the tub?

are we getting the two cases merged here?

I think you're getting the two kids mixed up...the 2 y.o. from last night was the one with multiple fractures. He wasn't found in a bathtub; his female birther (not a mother except for giving birth to him) brought him to the hospital having seizures. I don't think they've done an autopsy on the 1 y.o. found in the bathtub yet.

ETA: The 2 y.o. from last night's story is still alive in critical condition with brain damage; his "mother" has been charged with attempted 1st degree murder and cruelty to a juvenile.

I worked with child abuse victims for many years. Zip code makes no difference. This shite happens everywhere.

We get a lot of abuse cases at work. Many times they stay in the hospital until DCS(formerly CPS) can find safe placement for them. You should hear the stories the parents or families will give us as to why the child got hurt. Certain injuries and types of fractures are just not possible because the child "tripped" or other kids were "playing rough with them". Things like shaken baby syndrome are called that for a reason. It can get difficult to bite your tongue and not say anything to their face when you know a mom is lying to you and likely covering up for someone else(usually a bf) abusing her child.
