and neither are my boxes of cards from 1988-1993 or my stacks of comic books from 1993-1995

Says Paul's card is around $100 graded 10. I'm not bout to do all that. That's the biggest scam there is. Paying that company to grade cards.
I mean grading cards has been around for decades.
I mean you bought a pack for a couple dollars and you're pissed you didn't strike gold, it's probably not the hobby for you.

Well you picked literally the worst 5-6 year stretch in the history of the hobby to collect
Even in that junk er, there are still cards worth good money, you just have to have the right ones. Not a bunch of Jose Canseco's and Shawn Kemp like most people have.

Cards aren't like you remember them. There's a gajillion manufacturers out there now making all kinds of fricked up variants
This is exactly how I remember them, lol.

I opened a box of 87 topps a couple years ago just for the nostalgia. Amazing how many cards you can remember .
Gum was awful though.

Those apps aren't accurate at all.

One of my closest friends is a collector of this type of stuff. He rents two storage buildings full of comic books, baseball cards, vintage posters, etc.
He recently downsized and tossed hundreds of boxes of unopened baseball cards. He said they are worth virtually nothing in today’s market

haha i cant help it that i was born in 1981. i was in the perfect time window for both the baseball card and comic book bubble. i thought i was going to get rich with my collections! whatever, it was a lot of fun and i have great memories from those days. wouldnt trade it (pun intended).

Born in 86 for me and definitely had my fair share of cards that ended up being worthless. But I agree, those memories were priceless. My mom actually got me into collecting. Very fond memories of collecting, even more valuable memories now that she's gone.
I took a break from collecting and some years and started back up in the early 2010's. Was a great time to get back into. Some of the vintage, Brady, and MJ rookies I heavily invested in have 10x in value.
The hobby has changed drastically over the years, but it is very much thriving. Though I do think it is on it's way to another junk era so I'm pretty specific with my collecting.

Out of all the mid 80s sets of cards I have. The 3rd series garbage pail kids set it my most valuable

i'm still waiting on my 1990 Bo Jackson Score card to mature in value.

I'm still waiting for my Beanie Babies to pay for returement

You literally pulled the top 3 rookies including a WM exclusive parallel in one pack. Not bad at all. You can't retire from it, but you certainly could have done much worse. Unfortunately the money is only in the 10's or low parallels and it isn't even worth it to submit 1-2 low end cards at a time these days w PSA.
Still beat the odds w that pack.

I collected baseball cards for about ten years...about 1988 to 1998. I had monster boxes full of them. I eventually got rid of them all; I saved a few hundred that were favorites of mine. I know that 99.9999999999% of them are worth nothing more but kindling, but like someone said before, the memories are priceless.
Starting around 2012/13, my son was playing rec league and wanted to start collecting some cards. I started buying packs for him, and was overwhelmed by how much the hobby had changed. The hobby didn't take with him, or me, and he got out of it after a couple of years.
It was just so different than it was back in the day, and not enjoyable.

That's just a yellow parallel.

More importantly, what's with the replica ranch bottle? I may make an offer.

Depends on the year. I have an unopened box of 1985 Topps wax packs that’s probably worth a little bit.

People still buy baseball cards?
Posted on 11/18/24 at 2:15 pm to Giantkiller
Find a local card shop. Also, order cards by the box. I put every card in a plastic case so they could be played with.

I loved baseball cards as a kid. I had a Beckett's subscription and would eagerly price out my top cards each month. As I graduated high school I thought for sure I had a collection worth at least $2,500 which I wanted to sell to have a little money to start my time at LSU with.
I took them to the local card shop, and guy would not even make me an offer. Did not want them. I was like WTF?!?!?!?
I still have them somewhere in the attic.
