Half the young guys in my area come in expecting to do minimum and earn maximum. Their main goal is to jump to Valero. You are right about loyalty on both sides, much different environment than 15 years ago.

I tend to agree, but I've heard other arguments that companies will want more space to spread out employees.
From what I can tell, professional service firms are definitely going to shrink their footprint. I'd guess by about 30%
A lot of sophisticated companies will do the same.

Still hard to believe that will offset work from home movements.
Jury is still out on this. I’ve heard and seen surveys of employees where 70% or so want to have the option to go into an office versus being 100% at home.
Then I see articles where companies don’t care where you live and can be 100% remote. Who knows at the end of the day. All things considered, it’s more than likely not a one size fits all approach.

I truly believe a commercial space bubble is imminent. I work with a lot of technology companies and many have already told me they are implementing some spectrum of full time remote work. For many, this situation was almost like the catalyst they've been waiting for to prove it works. It will be interesting to watch over the next few years as leases expire.

You can definitely negotiate some perks if you're taking a pay cut and losing a match.
That seems counterintuitive.

Maybe WeWork won't be a disaster after all.
More likely, it will be hoteling. Company has 1200 seats and 2000 employees. You reserve a desk, but it won't always be the same.

I see no loyalty at all.
Us young people get to carry our 401k with us wherever we go and dont have a pension, so theres little reason to not jump the fence for greener grass. The young people are as cutthroat as the companies.
The older people are getting power fricked. Losing the pensions and having to start a 401k at 50-55 years old is horrible. I genuinely hope you get to retire with yours, my old man lost his and basically had to start building a retirement way too late in the game.

Its almost like we're in a pandemic and companies are focused on cost cutting and cash collection/retention

Got cut 20% and was told it won’t be coming back. Luckily salary is still really good compared to others in the industry.

This is what I envision. Replacing corporate lease space with hoteling style companies.

Mine is supposed to not extend past September but I fully expect it to be permanent.

I’ll be very curious if enough places stop matching retirement and never bring it back that it’ll fade like Private pensions have.
Doubtful. Work for a better company?

Maybe I’m cynical, but most employee benefits have gradually been reduced over the past years Pensions? Lol Full health insurance? Ha. Most everyone paying more and more out of pocket every year Sick/Vacation days? Been overall reduced
Kept full benefits for ours with 401K matching and profit sharing. Got the money in when the market bottomed. Pay 100% of insurance, good insurance. No cut hours, still 4 weeks PTO, holidays not included.
I took about a $100K hit, but it'll work out. If not, frick it. Some of us still do it the right way.

We were hoteling in our office already if you didn't check in 85% of days. We'll definitely have a more flexible work from home (that was already pretty flexible) if we ever get back to the office. If it were possible we'd definitely get rid of probably one of our 8 floors

I would cash out that 401k before it's worth nothing

You don't need to be an a-hole about it but it can't hurt to ask.
You're making a sacrifice to help the company. There should be some trade off for that sacrifice.

trump gave companies a hell of a tax break. And here we are,as expected. Taking care of themselves. Go on line and shop your resumes around, you might find out you can wind up with a better situation. There is no need anymore to be married to a company since pensions don't exist anymore. Welcome to trump world.
