I hear you - I used to work in the Middle East, 8 hours time difference from the home office in Dallas. My boss called often as he was getting off work, which was after mid-night my time. 99% of the time, it was just bullshite which could have been handled the next day.

The people with blue collar jobs are often the most apt to live to work because with some exceptions they aren't making enough money to do much else.
I have been in 100% commission sales for a long time, I havent turned my phone off to customers in 14 years. If you send be some garbage arse email at midnight you can expect it will be buried under a mountain more by the time I could actually provide a decent answer to your question. I can also tell you that my bosses emails are the least important emails that I receive, he is there to help me..not eat up my time with his requests.

this is just horrible management. Keep in mind, I agree with you. But as a manager, you have to recognize that employees who are non-stop throughout the week simply don't even want to think about work over the weekend. And they don't have to. Just because it takes you one second to reply, it doesn't mean you cut your brain off right then.
The best employees Mon-Fri are the ones who know when to shut it off, in my experience. Come back recharged. Enjoy your weekend.

I re-energize just fine during the weekend, even though I occasionally think about what's going on at work in the coming. Acting like you'd quit your job because your boss expects an answer to an email within a day on a company provided phone is ludicrous.

If you are expected to answer your boss at midnight or Sunday you should be in an industry that works 7 days a week 24 hours a day.
If the question is so mundane that the employee can answer with no research on a Sunday morning, it can wait until Monday at 8 am.
Every employee is different, some worry like hell about stuff, some dont. Just because the boss lacks the time management skills to make his requests at reasonable times should not require the employee to be inconvenienced on the weekend.

Exactly. And the manager is just making up for his incompetence.
In sales, no one wants to be the boss. The boss makes a whole lot less, so you get a bunch of younger lower earning reps that take the jobs. They realize they arent ready for a meeting on Monday morning when they are flying to the corporate office on Sunday afternoon and they bombard you with shite. shite you have told them 10 times in the last two weeks.

Never said I was a leader in my industry
. I just don't understand how someone would ever want to be on the clock nonstop for any amount of money. I go to work, and while I'm there I get shite done. I work overtime when required and get paid for it. I've even done some side projects when my time allowed and I choose to. But I'll be damned if my boss wanted to have a sit down on Monday morning and question my commitment to "his company" because I didn't answer his Saturday night email by Sunday.
