I've looked at every response in this thread. It's clear there are no accepted, consensus rules for sending, receiving, and replying to emails.
Email is the worst form of communication.

I typically receive on average 500-800 emails per day, including weekends. If someone needs something urgently from me then they better pick up the phone and call.

I bill out every hour I work. If I get emails at 12:30 am on the weekend, you better believe I am getting paid for it. If they dont want me to bill for it I wont respond until the office opens again.
Given the amount of time you post here during business hours, this is laughably hypocritical.

Lol this is ridiculous. Unless there’s an emergency or you’re getting paid over $100/hr, frick emails on the weekend and frick you clowns who allow bosses to think it’s acceptable to expect responses on the weekend.
That's dumb.
A reasonable expectation is anything that the boss requires and the employee understands is a condition of employment.

You manage up as much as your manager manages down. I would make sure to reply to all weekend emails first thing Monday morning.

They are absolutely missed if you're not making a habit on Monday morning to double and triple check emails from Saturday and Sunday.
That's a problem. It's not reasonable to use that excuse.

either he is a serious micro manager that requests to be copied on everything (including obnoxiously long and convoluted email chains) or he is full of shite
when you get 50+ on a email chain, it can get stupid in a hurry.

There's a couple of deep assumptions here you might be missing.

A lot of y'all talking about checking email shows how many of y'all have low testosterone inside jobs. Out here in the unit you just get on your radio if you wanna holler. Hell I don't even got a email

Read the entire thread. OP's boss is not expecting him to wake up in the middle of the night and respond. OP said in several posts that he missing the email ENTIRELY because it wasn't sent while he was sitting in front of his PC during work hours. Apparently he doesn't think unread e-mails when he arrives on Monday should be a thing and he ignores them. I don't know how you can even manage to ignore an unread email while checking new ones, but this is what he is saying he does.

Explain away all of your hours posting here that I'm sure you don't claim on your time sheet. This should be funny.
