One of the most intelligent dogs I’ve ever owned was a border collie / chocolate lab mix. He looked full chocolate lab except his bushy tail. The best bird dog and family dog I ever had.

I had a black lab/collie that probably was pretty close to 50-50 appearance. Totally failed hunting dog that was given up by his first owner. He was a fun house mutt though.

If those sheep would adopt themselves a Great Pyrenees, that Border Collie couldn't get away with that shite.

I have a border collie mix. I had forgotten how smart and obediant dogs could be after owning two bassets. Besides being highly intelligent, she's also sort of neurotic and sensitive though.

Amazing working dogs. Before we had to get rid of all the sheep and switch the cattle because of the coyotes we had them working at the ranch.

So the dog rides a four wheeler, except for when he herds sheep.

They are teaching him to drive it.

Had a border collie. We would play fetch with a big arse stick in a field close to a tree line. Like others have said, he'd go until he or I died. I'd have to make him stop.

I'd occasionally make a bad toss and the stick would go off in the woods pretty far. I'd be damned if he wouldn't go in the woods, search, and bring back the exact same stick in a place where there were a billion.

Miss him.

I have a blue heeler that acts like this. I know they are very similar breeds.

We had a red heeler that would herd up the horses like that. One day he got caught in the wrong place and a horse kicked him in the head, he almost died and lost most of the teeth on the left side of his mouth. Took him about a month to recover, but once he did, he was back at it and tormented that horse for the rest of his life.

My neighbours have a pit bull that sweetly guards their hens while they're out clucking about. If they get too close to the street she guides them back in

I went to someone's house a few weeks ago that had a rescue pit bull and it was actually a really sweet dog. I can see where they make good dogs, its just that those bastards are so strong and have really strong jaws that in the wrong hands those sons a bitches are dangerous.

My wife’s family lived next to a guy when she was growing up who used blue heelers on his farm. When we started dating in HS I used to go over and watch him work his dogs. I’ve seen him point out a couple of cows from the herd and tell the dog to put them up, that dog would push just those cow into a corral and into a loading chute without him keeping him on task. They are smart dog but can be mean.

Lol my Aussie is very sensitive too. You start chewing him out and he’s squinting his eyes scared to make eye contact. I very rarely spank him cause of how sensitive he is.

Herding dogs are incredible. I've had 2 shelties that were great and would try to herd anything and everything.

He will, however, try to herd people, especially young children. And he's never been trained to do it. Just instinct.

I had a Welsh Corgi that herded a group of 6 year old girls into a corner at my daughter's birthday party. Coolest dog ever.

I had a border lab. Got the best of both dogs. He was a once in a lifetime dog. He was smarter than some of my friends kids, and definitely better at catching a frisbee.
