Milk is not a healthy food item. Probably a good thing we are drinking less of it. Now if only we could do the same with sugar...

The local WalMart (I know, I'm trashy) sells gallons of milk for 98 cents. I'm not sure how anyone could compete with that.

love me some milk... Small dairies got put out of business in the 80s. Only way to survive now is to sell "organic milk" and that will have to be only part of your organic business. Need organic eggs and organic other things too.

Same at my house. Maybe a gallon per day. When we get down to one gallon the kids tell me we are running low.

Dairy farming Alabama has taken a beating. Used to be several Dairy Farms down where I grew up. Good friends on my Moms side of the family still has their operation and contract with Dairy Fresh. Gallon of Dairy Fresh in T-Town is 6 bucks, junk they truck in from Illinois is 3 bucks. How the helll they do that?//

We probably go through a gallon every 2 weeks.

I don’t drink as much because of kidney stones but I usually drink a glass every other day. Otherwise no one else drinks it and it’s only used to cook when needed.

Nut milk isn't good either. You get all of milks nutrients and vitamins through food without the extra calories or sugar. Drink water and eat your nutrients.

I get that, on an intellectual level.. I mean, if you think about kit, the purpose of cow’s milk is to fatten up baby cows, fullstop.. there’s no logical reason we humans should drink the milk of another animal that is intended to fatten it’s offspring..... BUT.. to me, ice cream and pizza just taste so damn good.

As far as drinking milk itself, I’ve always thought it tasted nasty.. but when i was a kid my dad would go through a half gallon of milk by himself at dinner, just glass after glass.. it was the damndest thing, i guess you just either love it or hate it.

I worked at Borden during the late 80’s and early 90’s. There was an ice cream side to the BR plant that made ice cream for the Borden label as well as K&B brand: Winn Dixie Brand and the National store Brand. Same ice cream, just used different cartons.

Milk side had milk for A&P and carried Jungle Juice. eggnog was made in late November and the smell was delightful. Schools relied on milk pouches. Not sure if pouches are still around.

Borden kept milk prices up when wholesale milk prices fell in 1990-1991. Thereby, losing market share.

Wonder if this impacts the Borden Ice Cream shop in Lafayette? I know its owned by Red Lerille but I don't know how much of role the Borden company plays.

I don’t believe it will have an effect because the Borden brand label will still exist. There will be a company buying the debt and keeping the Elsie label going iirc

Also...Gail Borden (1801-1874) the inventor of condensed milk, has a county named after him in the state of Texas.

We drink at least two gallons of milk a week on our house. It can be very expensive (Kleinpeter charges almost $7/gallon vs generic is about 4$). Its almost worth it to treck to Costco and get it for $2.50/gal.

Whole Foods normally has the best milk price.

I grew up with Borden’s being delivered at our house in the half gallon glass bottles with the cardboard stoppers. I still have a few bottles.
