How many "when they hit 50's" "boomers" do you know?

My nearly 80 year old inlaws are moving in next to me soon. I set it up to where I would be gone a month working before and during the move in, then on vacation the week after they move in. I made friends with the Spectrum rep that will set everything up for them, and the installer. Hopefully they're settled by the time I get home. But I already know it's gonna be all day, every day with some of their shite.

The best are the executives that think being technologically illiterate is cool. No, it makes you look like an incompetent fool.

It is a strange thing. My mom tells me she doesn't know computers. I'm like, you taught me how to use the damn computer and used to play the Nintendo with us.

A lot of that is legitimate memory loss and slowing of cognitive function.

But it's hard to tell, because my parents also suddenly don't know how to do anything that they want me to do. And suddenly forget anything about local geography if I explain where I am when she wants me to pick something up from the store for her.

I used to be tech forward. I enjoyed getting a new gadget, a new app and fooling around with it until I knew it backwards and forwards. If somebody was having a tech issue I would gladly spend a few hours helping them with it.

Now I have better things to do with my time. All the new features, all the extra layers of security are are just a pain in the arse that don't add anything to my quality of life.

Maybe one of your young friends will explain how stupid this comment is.

76 and a retired CPA. Never ever use a phone for banking. Protect your laptop at home, get a password manager like Robo Form Everywhere and only do your banking from your laptop.

Us old boomers still remember our home address and phone number growing up. Makes a damn good password. Or use your license plate

Validating that the boomers still have the money, good for the old fella.

Was helping my seasoned citizen friend, I put his app on face ID but I kept having to handle the two-factor verification when it popped up. He is unable to paste the code into the verification screen when it gets triggered, yes pitiful I know.

I asked tech support why he was getting so many verification requests and he said well after every 50 logins it will trigger. Found out he was checking his balance as many as 50 times a day. He is in no danger of being overdrawn, not even close.
That person is further along than my parents - they're still writing checks and complaining non stop about places that don't take their checks anymore. My mom just got her first debit card at age 79 and she keeps it in her checkbook even though I tried to show her the bank app to keep track of her balances. She wants zero to do with it.

I wish I had this problem.

I am the opposite. I am worried about being my account being overdrawn, but I doubt I would need to check it 50 times a day.

I have a neighbor in his 70s worth probably $50m give or take. He got the old missed jury duty scam call and was headed to buy gift cards. Hes surprisingly sharp still so it blew my mind. He bought a simulator recently so ill help him with technology when he needs.

Im not even 1% of his net worth yet so dont think this is a subtle brag post.

Being at my moms a lot the past year and a half I am fascinated by how "boomers" function. My mom's husband.. 82 and in good shape for his age.. One day he got his monthly statement from the bank. This dude pulled out a cardboard box filled with receipts and was making sure he had a receipt for each purchase and then spent 40 mins trying to find a receipt he evidently misplaced. He keeps every receipt. Not just the ones he puts on his card.. If he goes to a store and buys a candy bar and pays cash he request a receipt and keeps it. There is a closet that has boxes upon boxes upon boxes of receipts.

Then he tells me about his daughter who banks electronically, but only because she is a CPA. I didn't even want to engage in that conversation. Introducing a banking app would blow his fricking mind.

As an upper 60s boomer I am always trying to convince my younger counterparts to use more technology. Stop using cash and coins, stop writing checks, stop printing documents, stop getting paper bills.
