That's pretty interesting.
Is still an active recording studio?
It is still in use. I remember as a teenager Kansas and Stevie Wonder recording there. My mom worked at Sportsman’s Inn and we got to meet Kansas as they hung out at the pool when not recording. Stevie Wonder also put on a free concert at BHS football stadium. If I’m not mistaken, Willie Nelson, Jimmy Buffet, Zebra and Neville Brothers recorded there.

The crappy golf course
My only two visits to that area were for a jr golf tournament summers of 90-91z. They put on a pretty popular tournament and you could tell that the locals tried very hard to make it a nice event. Even back then though we were able to tell that things were starting to run down.

Sportsman’s Inn was the GOAT restaurant in a 30 mile radius.

It’s spring fed water.

There’s also the historical attraction of “Studio in the Country” where Kansas recorded Leftoverature featuring Carry On Wayward Son and other Platinum albums.
I heard an interview with some of the Kansas members years ago. They brought up. the paper mill odors they would smell quite often while working there. They nicknamed it Dead Man’s Butt.

"The most bubble-fricked place they'd ever been" was also a quote.

Those are old gravel pits. The silica and clay make it that color. There are several in that area.

Its pretty but isn't silica harmful? At least thats what they claimed at the old pre-stress site in mandeville from the silica in the concrete.

They only sell 75 tickets a day. Wonder how long that's gonna last.

The only good thing I can remember from that town is the fried chicken at some place called Lumberjack grocery. Had a funeral for a family member at a church in town and they got a ton of fried chicken and fixings to feed the family after. I'll be damned if that wasn't some of the best I've ever had and everyone there was raving about it.
I got nothing else for that dying town.

The rumor used to be that Elvis recorded there, but it’s long been debunked.
