Agree - driving is kind of insane when you consider how many people are glued to the phone and how many idiots got the clot shots and could stroke out at any moment.

a little G-ing up isn't going to knock somebody out, might be uncomfortable but it could take upwards of about 9 Gs to black a human out

The G forces would be negligible once the aircraft reached terminal velocity correct?

Unless the aircraft was still accelerating prior to impact or turning during the event the G force load would be minimal

Remember in that skiing thread a guy said he could stop from a 60mph downhill run in 10 feet?

Do what now?

I mean I could smack in to a building and stop instantly. Short of that I got nothing.

Germany had one happen I believe. The one pilot left to use the restroom or something and the other one locked him out. You can hear them banging on the door trying to get back in.

How much of an a-hole do you have to be to crash a plane load of people because you don’t feel like dealing with life anymore?

I don’t think this was suicide. I think something rather important fell off the airplane or a control surface got stuck in the go down as fast as possible position.

Or could just be some good ole fashioned terrorism

The chart I posted a few pages back showed that they actually gained altitude, from 7,400ft to over 8,000ft before falling out of the sky. If correct, that probably rules out suicide and terrorism, wouldn’t you think?

I really have no idea man.

Could be false readings by wherever they got that data. I’m assuming something like Flightradar24

Saw that and then read the news story that "search and rescue operations" were underway.

They can go ahead and change the title of those operations to recovery. Ain’t no way anyone survived that. The only thing that there is to search for are the black boxes.

*Prepares to board 737-900ER

My flight out is on an Airbus, but the flight back is on a Boeing 737-900. As another poster pointed out, this crash was a 737-800. Still just hate seeing a commercial plane crash the week I fly out with my family on board. I know the likeliness of it happening is slim to none.

I know the chances of dying on a flight are astronomically low, but I really dislike flying out of fear of a crash.

You won't feel much. It's probably a good way to go.

but that one minute of pure terror - no thanks

I'd rather die in my sleep - and you're probably with loved ones too in a crash like that. No way I want to go out like that.

The last few minutes of life would be absolutely terrifying and I’d think of nothing else than my family and missing out on my 3 kids (aged 6 and younger) growing up.

Only thing I can think other than pilot suicide is an aileron jammed.

A jammed aileron would cause an uncommanded roll, not likely a 29K ft dive. The 737 lateral control is coupled to the spoilers so in the event of a jammed aileron, lateral authority can be restored via the spoilers.

A more plausible mechanical failure would be the horizontal stabilizer actuator failed in the nose down position. Depending on the angle and speed, the elevators might not have enough authority to fly out of the dive. The 737NG's(not MAX) do occasionally have runaway stabilizers (electric motor failures) but there is a cutout switch and the crews should be trained on how to overcome it.
