And we already know from the Canine Ted Bundy over here that bullets go right through dogs.

This is what I was talking about above.

We're talking about using deadly force. Which means it could be deadly for bystanders too.

I would think there would need to be a fairly high standard for using it...especially when cops have access to non-lethal methods of resolution.

Just for the record, you think someone should actually be getting bitten before they use lethal force? And that even if they are attacked, it isn’t a big deal? That is what you have been saying.

And then there is this gem.

quote:

If we search in general it looks like there are 4,500,000 million dog bites in the US a year, but only 800,000 require medical attention

But only 800,000 require medical attention? Only 800,000?

To put that in perspective, there are 770,000 people in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Shreveport combined That is a lot of people having to get treatment for dog bites every year.

Sounds like a lot of people need to be shooting dogs before they end up in the hospital.

You are a clown living in a clown world. Good luck in life, I suspect you will need it.

As for me, I will continue to shoot every aggressive dog I cross paths with. A bullet is a lot cheaper than a hospital stay.

Why was the cop holding his fingers out like he was offering a treat?

If you can't control the situation with a neighborhood black lab you probably have no business being a cop.

I won't say the cop deserves to be put down like he did to that lab but he definitely deserves maybe a gouged eye and a double tap to the dick, or in his case vagina.

You’ve shot and killed four dogs? Yikes…

A warning shot fired into the ground that scares the dog off also saves you from being bitten. Just like a cop tasing or using pepper spray on the dog in question could have resolved the situation without loss of life.

But then you don't have the satisfaction of having killed an animal that you didn't have to kill.

So there's that.

With a cop the satisfaction is usually about authorit-eye. "I can do this and you can't. I have the power to shoot your dog and there's nothing you can do to stop me."

What's your ego jerk-off?

If you're not also a cop, I mean.

Lmao. There's a lot of dumb comments in this thread but you sir, are the king of them all.

Labrador related deaths are I believe single digit any given year, as a statistic to consider

Pair with young children down range from the shooting

I suspect bystander deaths once shots are fired are more than I can count on one hand in a year

I think even worried about the bite there’s still a host of more reasonable approaches before pulling the gun. He made his risk of possible discomfort into risk of death for others

Moral of the story. Don’t let your dog play with your kids near your house or a rabid cop might decide to show up and kill it.

Umm, no

How is this difficult for people. The dog ran clear across its property and completely across the neighbors property to get to the officer

If the dog were white, he'd still be alive. The dog didnt deserve to die. The kids didnt deserve to witness this.

There are safer more humane ways to defuse the situation.

However, the reality is that this dog was never leashed and posed a threat to this officer.

We're not talking about Dogo Argentino or something. That guy is a coward. Cowards with guns are a danger to society.

quote:

But I’m sure there will be many on here who will still angrily blame the cop for this.

Yeah, it's cowardice and that deserves blame. There is a profound refusal to accept risk in law enforcement. People that don't accept risk are scared and scared people pull triggers well before they ought to pull triggers because their decisions are based on emotion. The whole point of having a professional LE community is to provide a group of people that can make these decisions outside the influence of emotion.

"I have to go home at the end of my shift". No you don't. When that is finally accepted, LE will be better for it. Growing up I knew several guys in LE, all of them Vietnam vets. They understood what could happen if they didn't de-escalate and if others didn't de-escalate. Not one of them ever said some bullshite about having to go home at the end of the shift. Every one of them knew and accepted the risk that came with their job and as a result they were better for it, and the community was as well.

LE carries tasers, pepper spray, batons and more...if you can't figure out how to deal with a dog that is obviously not a threat, then you have no business with the badge or the gun. It's absurd that this activity gets defended.
