Did the first shots miss or was she so whacked that they didn't phase her?

Unnecessary deadly force.

I can say I'm comfortably experienced enough to say that I am confident I'm correct.

Quick question. Do you think it's easier to walk when you are shot in the stomach or with a hole in your knee?

Um, the "thug" in the video was a middle-aged fat lady who was running like 1 MPH.

Whatever happened to the era when cops were men, not grown up teenagers who were weened on video games?

Sure, legally, the cop is protected here.

But JHC, what kind of man thinks a .44 to the chest is the best way to deal with a 60-year old Korean woman walking toward another woman with a dull-arse meat cleaver?

The cop will return to duty, but it's a damn shame when cops are robots who simply shoot without trying to protect and also serve.

You'll never convince me that an average man, let alone a trained cop, couldn't have handled this situation better here.

Do cops not carry Tasers??

We had a local cop killed a few years ago when he had his taser drawn and the guy pulled his gun and shot him. After that the departments do not pull their taser unless they know 100% the suspect is unarmed.

If you are not going to obey an officer and continue to chase someone with a deadly weapon then don't be surprised when deadly force is used on you.

The kind of man that was taught his entire police career that if you have to shoot you shoot for center mass and eliminate the threat.

There is a reason the police teach that. It is because it is the most effective way to eliminate the threat.

This isn't fricking Hollywood.

I get it that as a general rule, cops are not what we would call 'smart men', but if you are given the right to carry firearms and exercise lethal force on behalf of your city/state/country, you need to also be charged with the responsibility of determining how much force to use given the situation.

It's called proportionality, and it's taught to 18 year-olds who join the Army. If they can handle it, yes, even city cops can.

Like I said earlier, instead of asking "can I shoot?", cops need to start asking "should I shoot?".

What's going to happen the next time cops are called to one of y'all's trailer in response to a domestic abuse call, and your angry wife answers the door with the kitchen knife? When she gets dropped by some scared cop, let's see how you feel then.

I understand that sometimes cops have to use force, but this 60 year old woman had no business being shot that many times. She wasn't running anybody down and she wasn't going to move very far after being shot once. Looks like another cowardly cop that is allowed to shoot anytime he gets scared. Congratulations to him for finally getting to unload on somebody though.

Another person who doesn't know what he's talking about and convinced of his own brilliance. You obviously have no idea of the lethality of edged weapons. Nor do you have a clue as to the use of deadly force.

But you didn't care about that, anyway. You just wanted to get your e-cred up by bashing cops and slipping in two snarky comments ("cops are not...smart men" and the always hilarious trailer park reference) to attempt to establish some sort of intellectual superiority. You failed.

"With great power comes great responsibility."

Again, this is when cops, with all the power they are given on behalf of the state, need to ask themselves "is my reaction proportional to the threat?"

Edged weapons are dangerous? Absolutely. In the hands of a grandma, moving down the sidewalk at a snails pace? This is when cops are charged with the responsibility to analyze a situation and respond appropriately.

What about a shot in the leg, or did this super-cop spend so much time at the academy putting his weapon together/taking it apart blindfolded that he can't turn off the reflex to de-escalate a situation by any means other than empty his clip into a 60 year old woman?

What are cops taught about proportionality?

If I were a cop, I'd be doing my damndest to start evaluating my lethal actions in light of recent perceptions of the people who I serve. Last time I checked facebook, cops demand respect for how demanding their job is. Well they need to start paying a little more attention to the responsibility they are given on behalf of the people. Situations like this, and similar ones where unfortunately dogs are the victim, leave me shaking my head at those too quick to pull a trigger instead of seeing the big picture.

That's a quick way to get yourself or an innocent person killed. You or either/or stupid or very young. Sounds like SOS Warren Christopher, remember him?

Usually I say shoot if threatened but, in this case, it did not look like she charged him. He could have backed off a bit and still had time to snap a few off if she turned on him. Nevertheless, another knife wielding turd will not have to be dealt with later. I also think that somebody is gonna get paid in this scenario....
