I had an early 2000s Volvo that to this day had the best heated seats I've ever experienced in a vehicle.

Regardless of the programming, there's a positive and negative wire terminating inside the seat that controls this.

What if there was a “public health crisis” and the government declared a shutdown and to comply BMW decided to disable their cars?

Hey, after the past 2.5 years that seems entirely possible.

Just spitballing here, but if they can throttle on and off amenities in the car at will, maybe they could make the car slightly harder to steal and/or easier to disable once stolen.

Didn’t California ask Tesla if they could do that right at the start of the shutdowns? As I recall Tesla said they didn’t want to get involved.

Yep. That’s an extra feature for which you have to pay.

As soon as that happens your BMW will phone home and your Beemer will be bricked.

I'd like to criticize this but I currently have two cars with XM radios that don't get used.

Why don’t they just add $415 to MSRP and call it a day

My boss loves his Tesla but wishes he hadn’t paid the $12k upgrade for self driving.

He can’t turn it off and get a refund, but if you didn’t buy it to begin with you can pay $12k to turn it on any model.

That's cheap for a luxury car if you buy the unlimited. My heated seat/steering wheel pkg on my jeep was 700 or 750

I can guarantee you they aren't installing it for free and then only recouping cost if you subscribe. The subscription cost is pure profit.

Can I get air conditioner seats? I’d pay for that. Sit me down on a giant AC vent blasting up my anus

I have that feature in my F-150. It can feel wonderful! But sometimes, when you've been sweating a whole lot, it can feel like you pissed the bed an hour ago and now it's cold. Overall, I love that feature.

Also has heated seats that I don't have to pay a fee for in the winter.

BMW is apparently behind the times and wanting to make it up by leasing comfort.

I cannot stand heated or cooled seats. So I'll pass.

All that subscription BS could make resale a real PITA, IMHO.

My Audi has cooling seats. It’s great this time of year. The heated seats feature can get warm quickly in the winter.
