BMW is now selling subscriptions for heated seats in a number of countries — the latest example of the company’s adoption of microtransactions for high-end car features. A monthly subscription to heat your BMW’s front seats costs roughly $18, with options to subscribe for a year ($180), three years ($300), or pay for “unlimited” access for $415.

heated seats subs are now available in BMW’s digital stores in countries including the UK, Germany, New Zealand, and South Africa. It doesn’t, however, seem to be an option in the US — yet.

You'll rent everything, subscription based and community shared. And you'll enjoy it.

Can I get air conditioner seats? I’d pay for that. Sit me down on a giant AC vent blasting up my anus

I don't know about easily but I think someone will figure it out.

I just can't imagine what the developers working on this "feature" were thinking when they were told to do it.

True, should recuse to implement it. Same with the anti-drunk-driving crap they’re about to start pushing.

Honestly I wish the chip shortage would get worse so they’d be forced to de-computerize stuff like cars and home appliances.

That's cheap for a luxury car if you buy the unlimited. My heated seat/steering wheel pkg on my jeep was 700 or 750

This won't last long. They were requiring people to pay a subscription to Apple Carplay a few years ago and dropped that due to complaints.

Because you can only get that from the first guy. They want to nickel and dime every future owner as well.

And BMW could disable the car if they wanted.

Not that they would. It would be brand suicide. But, they could.
