Whatever - that couldn’t be farther from the truth - she drove a 2006 Camry with 250,000 miles on it for 3 years. GFYS. Idiot.

Why would you buy a 17 year old a BMW?

Get her something cheap.

My wife has a couple of 330i cars. The engines run great, its the auxiliaries that become an issue at the 75,000 mark. All of the oil filter housings, coolers, thermostats, water pump assemblies mount to the side of the engine block sealed with o-rings. The o-rings leak after they get brittle from heat over the years and or miles on the car. Some of the housings are plastic and can and do crack requiring replacement of those as well, These days aftermarket parts that are good quality can be found for prices comparable to US made cars. If you're handy with wrenches and can do your own oil changes and such, go for it. They're good cars, just expensive if you're not handy with a wrench.

Can't speak to the M3 but wife drives Z4 [14] and I drive a 5 series [18]. Routine maintenance to date - maintenance costs have been fairly typical, hadn't noticed anything off the charts. We try to take good care of our vehicles...

Not really apples to apples. You do mean M3 and not X3? One is a SUV and the other a high performance car

Bc they have full rides to college and work. I provide 1 nice car to start college and it yours when you graduate. She got a junker to start out in - Camry that has 250,000 miles and looks rough. She never complained.

We had to go to a Jeep dealership in Orlando on Saturday to get a specific tire and they had 2024 manual M2 in a flat grey color. That series is the only one from BMW I’d buy. Wouldn’t have to be m though, just manual.

You must mean an X3. An M3 is, relatively speaking, very expensive to keep running if older. And like mentioned earlier, since you can’t rotate the tires, they don’t last more than 20,000 miles and are very expensive. A new one is going to be around $85,000-$90,000. I wouldn’t consider it a practical daily driver, particularly for a college student.

2017 M3 Sedan with 30,000 miles on it, is one I’m looking at. Another is 2018 M3 Sedan with 40,000 miles.

This is a troll, right? No fricking way I'd give 17 year old an M3.

I wouldn’t trust any teenager with an M3. It will end up wrapped around a tree.

Oh, I missed that part. Thanks for pointing that out. Yeah, that changes everything. Give her the 425 hp M3.

The engines are bulletproof, but that's a lot of power to give a young driver coming from a Toyota.

They are one of the absolutely safest cars you can buy, and are a Top Safety Pick by IIHS.

Check the VIN through a BMW dealership to determine service history.
Look carefully for paintwork and/or accident history.
