I compared the share for each model in a state with the share of the same of model in the United States and came up with a ratio ... Then I basically ranked those ratios within each state ... this compares the individual demand of a model in a state with the individual demand at the national level.

In Louisiana, the BMW 760 sells at 854 percent of the national average. They like them large: in Louisiana eight full-size SUVs have market shares more than twice their national market shares.
This makes me wonder how much higher our rate for defaults on car loans are compared to the national average

So this is just who has the highest sales of a particular model when compared to the national average?

Oregon and the Smart car is the most unsurprising thing on that map

yes, so the reason it's not the F-150 or something similar is because LA likes them about the same as many other states

Mechanics rejoice.
Those things are nearly totaled by repairs after about 100,000 miles. This despite a $90,000 price tag when new.

No state claims the F150

If you were to take a list of the most popular cars in each state in the U.S., it'd be a pretty monotonous list. A bunch of Ford F-150s, some Chevy Silverado and Ram pickups, the odd Honda Accord or Toyota Camry here or there.
But we were curious: What car was the most distinctive in each state? What model of car did, say, California buy far more often than any other state in the Union?

The fact it isn’t a Subaru makes this suspect

I remember this posted several years ago and I did not understand it then.

Georgia’s is the Leaf? That makes no sense. Hell Stacey Abrams can’t even fit in one

Misleading post title and body.
The cars aren't the most popular in the state
So, if they sold 3 BMW 760s in all of the US and 2 of those sales were in LA, then the 760 is LA's "distinctive car"
Stupid article.

7 series depreciate more than just about any other make and model, making them fairly popular for used buyers who want the most bang for their buck in the luxury sedan tier

I would have thought that Chalmette, Kenner, and New Iberia alone would have put the Camaro WAY in front.
