Get your arse to the Dr. ASAP, and get on the meds. High BP will damage your kidneys and they do not regenerate.
Or, you can have a stroke, or heart attack, and have no control over how, or if, you come through it.

Do it yesterday.

Welcome to getting older and take your meds. There are steps you can take like eating better and exercising, but you body just isn’t 25 anymore. I hate going to the doctor and finding out what weird lab value is out of whack that I have never heard of.

I’d recommend eating healthy most days of the week and exercising. You get put on a blood pressure pill, you’ll end up thinking the pill will substitute for exercising and eat right. Next thing you know, you’ll end up on 7 different meds treating the side effects of other meds, all because you didn’t want to put forth a little effort into diet and exercise

Also might want to phase out caffeine. Sounds harder than it is.

You don't get high blood pressure from being 40. You get it from being fat and out of shape

FDA says stay under 2300mg of sodium daily but average American gets over 3000mg.

American heart association recommends 1500mg max daily intake limit. You can meet this mark REALLY easy, pay attention to nutrition labels.

Only way to offset sodium naturally is to exercise sweat it out and drink plenty of water. If you sweat enough out excess sodium won't be an issue.

Man...this.

Best thing you can do is learn to eat correctly and start doing since firm of resistance training 3 days a week and going for walks.

Everyone is going to say oh getting older sucks, welcome to getting older, oh I'm only a few pounds overweight etc etc.

Fact of the matter is those saying that are 20-30 lbs overweight and are even more out of shape.

Get your arse down into he normal bmi range while doing some form of resistance training and I promise that normalizes.

Bro you can't be telling the truth like that, the fatties of the ot don't want to hear it.

Didn't you know, once you are 40....well life is essentially over. High BP, bad cholesterol, terrible joints and no energy. You just don't understand man

The ot reminds me of my aunt that is a nurse and is always lecturing me on how bad the heavy lifting is for me. All while being 50+ lbs overweight. But she knows cause she is a nurse

Enjoy the downvotes, they are coming

I had three episodes of nearly fainting after going through a fasting of seven days where I only ate once a day. Talked to my doctor. He said it's okay to fast but I caused my blood sugars and sodium to get out of whack. He gave me recommendations, which were don't fast for more than 18 hours each day, and drink Gatorade to keep my electrolytes in balance.

No problems since then.

Fwiw, just so you know, the only reason salt has an effect on blood pressure is because it increases the water you retain…so drinking a shite load of water might not be the best thing when you’ve got high blood pressure.

That said, my blood presssure spiked up and I had a stroke about a year ago and also have some kidney damage as a result. Go and get yourself som meds before you wind up in my situation. All they are gonna do is prescribe some generic diuretic to you so the meds will cost like $5.

Sodium absolutely affects BP, esp as you get older and at 48, you are “older.” I’ve seen patients get hospitalized after a crawfish boil. Eat better, exercise, and take meds if it’s still high. If you’ve never been on meds before, it’s reasonable to try lifestyle changes if it’s not extremely high. But if it’s over like 160/100 you probably need meds right away.
