I remember renting old UFC fights and wondering if the back supply closet was where they kept the porn stash.
I re-rented the fights. We'd first watch them on PPV on my uncle's tuned up cable box that he had to unplug after every event

Go-to move was asking them to check the bin under the return slot by both the door and window for movies that just got brought back.
I remember renting a lot of those "too real for TV" videos. It was basically just like Reddit video compilations of bad wrecks and gun fights. Good times.

I remember the grocery stores would have video rental sections. It was a great way to kill time while the parents shopped.
Things like Blockbuster were great to just get out of the house and do something...anything. Where do you do that now?

the tracking on Basic Instinct was always fricked up on the part where we get a beaver shot from Sharon Stone.

Saturday night tradition when I was a kid: go to the movie store with my dad, pick out a movie (usually something scary), I'd pick out a snack (candy or popcorn) and have a movie night. Kids today will never know that joy. It was the best part of my week from 8-11.

We had a double team policy. We'd hit up both movie gallery and blockbuster. Blockbuster for 1-2 games and 1 new movie for everyone to watch. Movie gallery for 5 movies for 5 days for 5 dollars. It had to be an older movie but there's so many movies I would have never seen otherwise.

My parents never bought me a game system, but the few times my dad let me rent a PlayStation from BB were amazing weekends.
I loved everything about blockbuster and even used their DVD by mail service a ton in the early to mid 2000s. When they first started it, it was completly comparable to Netflix, but you could trade by mail DVDs in for movies in the store for free without a limit. It was a great deal, especially when binge watching a show like 24, with 8-10 discs in a season. When they started limiting that trade in feature on the monthly plan, I remembered thinking that it would be downhill from there for them.
Overall, I had good memories at that store. It served a purpose, but failed from lack of innovation.
