He would do this in front of other co-workers? I’ve just never in my 35 years of life tried to complain about a meal to not pay. Sent back food to be cooked a little longer and then happily eaten it and paid, that’s about it.

I remember being in BFE AZ with him at some podunk restaurant. He orders a steak and decides he wants to add shrimp for an extra 7 or 8 bucks. Food comes out and the shrimp is predictably pre breaded frozen shrimp that's been fried. He tells the waitress he wanted grilled shrimp so she told him that's all they had. He then said he wasn't going to pay for it. He would always complain about fries being cold or too crispy or not cooked enough and demand they be taken off his bill even if they were part of the entrée.

Did you ignore her post where these queens made it about race?
. I don’t know what you are getting at. This is the only post I have seen about this. All I am saying is that this doesn’t sound like a race thing it is just shitty service at a subpar restaurant. It happens everyday in this country to ppl of all backgrounds

I am not surprised as anything you get to eat from Rips is garbage. The food is absolutely horrible! Rips should pay people to eat there!

Maybe it’s a culcharal thing, maybe it’s an attitude, maybe it’s a known tactic for getting free food that gets passed along to friends and relatives. But it sucks for the servers, it sucks for the kitchen staff, it sucks for the managers, it sucks for the owners. If somebody does this, the server doesn’t get a tip and has to work extra hard for that no tip, the kitchen has to do double duty for that table and it has to be rushed and come out perfect, the managers have to make a decision to comp food or do something else to hurt the business, and the owner has to eat the cost for people who will often end up bad mouthing the business (or even worse doing it again or telling other people who will also do it). And restaurants that put up with this behavior usually end up getting worse and worse clientele, which means it happens even more often

The OP should change the title since this was just freeloaders trying to get a comped meal. Nothing more

Good point. As many pointed out in this thread it’s that + they got seated in the best seating in the restaurant on the balcony overlooking the lake.

Social media is the culprit.

Avoid that and the news and you'll be much happier.

The internet is awesome.

He wasn’t treating you like that for being black. You are just a Karen. They come in all shapes and colors.

It’s engrained in a culcha to believe when you go to a restaurant, you’re supposed to be treated like a king or queen, and if it isn’t perfect they shouldn’t have to pay. And it’s never perfect

Once had a call asking if we could serve a party of 12 5 minutes before closing time 10:55 on a Saturday night, bartender who answered the phone was like sorry we are closed

There’s something to be said about nurses too. Nurses actually are terrible customers. They’re very entitled, often rude, and rarely tip well
I delivered for Jason's Deli in college, getting a nurses hospital order was the worst. You already have to dedicate 30 minutes to finding a parking spot and finding where their nurses station is in the hospital labyrinth. Then you get there and have to wait another 15 minutes while the one who coordinated the order shuffles through all the money and gives you exact change, all the while knowing full well that she is taking your tip and making money off this exchange

That would be considered sexual harassment and racist in today's new normal.

IDK how anyone, esp in this day, keeps it together mentally while working in the service industry.

Aren't they only supposed to be supporting black owned businesses anyway?

Had that one many times. That’s when the manager adds gratuity for parties of 8 or more. Anyone that pays with a card ends up having to pay it. The people paying in cash always pitch a fit and then don’t pay the gratuity saying something like “we were just gonna tip what we can afford, we were gonna give you a good tip”

It was just a job for me to get through school. I felt bad for the people doing it as a career. Especially the ones that can’t move up to a high end restaurant. I moved on to a high end restaurant quickly

Not sure it was racial profiling, but that owner was definitely an a-hole and I wouldn't want to support his business if I lived near there.
