A poster, I forget his name, older black guy, said his father told him about this old man who would use the N-word and say uncouth shite...but was also the one to give them aid and help when their house burnt down.
And the poster said his father told him, about that "he's not as racist as you think he is, and he's not as racist as HE thinks he is."
my father in law grew up in Biloxi during desegregation. he and my mother in law both same some pretty racist stuff and i've heard the N word a few times. usually just used casually as a descriptor, not an insult (i understand that's impossible)
on the flip side, one of the black guys that he employed at a trucking company in West Texas went on to be a high level leadership role in the state of OK and reached out to my MiL (my FiL doesn't do technology) to tell him that he always appreciated how much he taught him and invested in him not to fall into the same life that most of the other people in town did.
my MiL coached a black girl in HS that won numerous NC in track at a DII school. My MiL was invited to her hall of fame induction and in her speech thanked her for driving her home from practice, giving her direction, and loving her when her family was broken.
sometimes you have to reconcile that people can have great degrees of kindness for everybody... but also slip an N word in there unconsciously.

Dude just let us know his race and what he was told. It was relevant to his experience.. Idiot.

Wow, my dumbass was reading through this thread thinking it was the Travel board (where I usually hide out on TD these days for reasons that follow) and the excessive political and racial nature of the comments was really jarring for being that board, only to click “return to board” and realize it was the OT (lightbulb aha moment, this is not where I parked my car) and then it made sense, followed by the remark that this place is no Politard board (dodges incoming bricks) but Travel board is simply GOAT’d on TD for most civil board, god bless that board!

Not getting the original hot chicken would be like Baton Rouge for the first time and not eating at Louie's

Better get it while the getting is good.

Be careful of the Nashville Hot Chicken joints. That stuff will light you up.

I just looked at the first page of his comments. His comments about the EBR schools were not popular, but he didn't really mention much about race.

SEC FB Championship will be moving to the new dome in Nashville. Germantown neighborhood north of downtown is a known LBGTQ enclave

I hope so. It will no longer be a home game for Georgia... or Vandy

I kind of think about it like this.
When we think and talk about concepts of people...like no good low down cheatin', ref payin, Birmingham office colluding sister-fricking gumps...it's easy to otherize them and for negative emotions to rise and shite to be talked, especially in a removed setting like online.
But when it's game and you are looking across at some and they look at lot like you in different colors. And you share food and drinks, and hatred of teams like Georgia...they are humanized. Sure you can be on other sides of the fence but if we allow our better angels to surface we can find peace and camaraderie.
It's been by working with and breaking bread with and respecting people different from me that I've gathered my perspective, and a LOT of it really is based on behavior.
The N-egativity is directed towards how people are acting rather than the people themselves.
