Black Dahlia case solved?

The notorious Black Dahlia murder in Los Angeles in 1947 is arguably the most gruesome of America's cold cases ever.
The body of aspiring starlet Elizabeth Short was found beside a sidewalk in a vacant lot in a southern Los Angeles suburb and shocked even the most hardened newspaper crime reporters.
The woman had been strung up by the wrists, her face and head severely beaten and a satanic smile cut into her face with deep cuts extending out from the corners of her mouth.
The 22-year-old had been viciously mutilated, with the trunk of her body completely severed, the anal opening had abrasions from the insertion of a foreign object and her stomach was filled with feces, among many other horrors.
Short's murder has remained unsolved for decades, although there was a break through in late 1948 when the killer was seduced out of hiding and admitted to knowing the two things about the crime that were never revealed to the public.
But the case was never solved by the LAPD because of a cover-up by the Homicide Division and lingering fears for years of reprisal by the department.

First off, link is NSFL. I've read about the case but never seen most of those pics... yeesh.
Second off, with all the things that were done to the woman, I have a hard time believing a Hollywood bigshot just wanted to get rid of her and had her "offed"......... that hitman must've been having one hell of a bad day.

There have been movies, documentaries ,etc forever about this.
Oddest one was a few years ago on a "48 Hours" episode some guy swore up and down that his father was the killer.Almost defiant about it.

59, check out the book Black Dahlia Avenger. The guy who claimed his dad did it was also supposed to be a pretty good LAPD homicide detective as well. Supposedly the da signed off on all evidence presented to him, and stated he would have issued an arrest warrant for the dudes dad. It's a pretty intense read, but if you can hang on till the end very interesting read.

Same guy also suspects his dad of being the Lip Stick Killer in Chicago, or at least responsible for the murder of Suzanne Degnan. Degnan was 6 years old when she was abducted from her home and her body parts were later discovered in the sewers around her neighborhood.
He claims to have documented proof that Elizabeth Short visited Chicago as the manhunt for Degnan's murderer was underway. While she was there, she contacted reporters and police seeking details about the crime.
He makes some creepy parallels between the two murders. The Degnan family lived just north of Hollywood Ave, the terminus for Lake Shore Drive. Elizabeth Short's body was found near Degnan Blvd in Los Angeles. Both victims had been bisected in almost identical ways.

Yep, reading his book was pretty wild regarding the correlations he put together. Imagine being an LAPD detective assigned to the case later in your career, only to discover once you retire that it was your dad. Supposedly they always assigned new detectives to it every few years, just for the novelty I guess. Not to mention all of the other disappearances and sick shite his old man was involved in. Kinda goes along with all of the Hollywood pervs coming out now, and the pizzagate scandal. And shows how effed the LAPD and that bunch were even then.
